Zillow now buying homes in Colorado
Zillow has expanded its home buying and selling service into the Denver metro area. The other markets where it is available are Phoenix, Las Vegas and Atlanta. They're also planning on expanding into North Carolina.

Zillow is attempting to lure home sellers with this being the "convenient" way to sell your home. In reality, it's very similar to trading in your car at a dealership and knowing you will get less money than you would on the open market. The difference here is instead of getting maybe $3,000 less for your car, you're going to be getting probably in the neighborhood of $20,000 or more less for your home.

Where Zillow really makes its money is through real estate agents who pay to be one of Zillow's "Premiere Agents". And that is who they'll refer you to if you decide not to take their cash offer for your home.

If you're thinking about selling and want to get the most money for your home,
I would love to sit down and show you how we can make that happen.
Pair of local eateries closing
Two Denver-area restaurants that have been in business for a combined 64 years are closing at the end of the year. Lakewood's White Fence Farm (Dec. 30) and Boulder's The Cheesecake Factory (Dec. 29) will shut down right before New Year's Eve.

The White Fence Farm has been in operation since 1973 and is known for its fried chicken and amusement-park-style atmosphere. New owners Tom Piercy and Craig Caldwell told the Denver Business Journal that rising costs and a shortage of labor make it hard to operate under the same model that has sustained it over the years.

White Fence Farm will offer one last merchandise-filled Christmas shop this year. Also, all the animals on the farm have been adopted and will be relocated after the closure.

Meanwhile, the Cheesecake Factory is the latest chain eatery to leave Boulder's Pearl Street Mall, joining the likes of Old Chicago, the Olive Garden, Applebee's, Chili's and TGI Fridays. It has been in business at the corner of 14th and Pearl for almost 20 years. A new tenant for the location will be announced at a later date.
Denver apartment rent and vacancy rates dip
The average apartment rent in Denver decreased by 1.3 percent during the third quarter this year. It fell from an average of $1,484 down to $1,465.

Teo Nicolais, a Harvard Extension School instructor who specializes in real estate told the Denver Business Journal that labor shortages, higher construction costs and tighter lending standards are "putting the brakes" on new apartment supply.

The average vacancy rates for metro Denver dropped from 6 percent to 5.5 percent from where it was three months ago.
