APP Leaders and Continuous Improvement
APPs leaders -- Neil Weigand, PA (Manager of the General Surgery APPs) and Mardochee Val, CRNA (Nurse Anesthetist Supervisor) -- recently completed Continuous Improvement Trainings and are on a pathway to becoming Lean Champions. Lean training is UCSF Health's most intensive continuous improvement program. The trainings develop and deepen problem-solving proficiency (A3 Thinking), develop leadership skills to align teams around True North goals, communicate progress and coaching on problem-solving, and using clinical scenarios for improvement. The UCSF Health Continuous Improvement Department is an internal organizational resource that supports and facilitates the transformation of UCSF Health into a continuous improvement enterprise. The CID partners with administrative, operational and clinical leaders across UCSF to solve strategic organizational problems, reinforce a culture of continuous process improvement and innovate care delivery.

Compliance Gap Identified on Use of Restraints
from CMO Nerys Benfield
A gap in compliance with training on the safe use of restraints was identified after an unfortunate patient safety event. Inorder to come into compliance we are asking providers who are most likely to order restraints to complete this mandatory training. UCSF Health has set a threshold such that all clinical services that have written greater than 10 restraint orders/year will require training.
In the next couple of weeks, you may receive an automated message from Learning Management Systems asking you to complete the Restraint Use Training. You will have 30 days to complete the training, after which you will be out of compliance.
This training is required on an annual basis and will be assigned to you by your department as part of a list of mandatory trainings. If you have questions or believe you do not fall into the category of providers that are likely to order restraints, lease contact your department lead to discuss.

JUSTICE, EQUITY AND INCLUSION
The Black Caucus was founded in 1968 from the direct action of UCSF staff who advocated for change. As the oldest culturally-based affinity group in the UC System, the Black Caucus is built on the foundation of social justice advocacy. They serve as an instrument for the formation of a Black consensus on those racial matters that affect every person on this campus. On February 10, 2024, the Caucus held its 32nd Annual Black Heritage Gala and attended by APP leaders Alisa Yee (left) and Erna Josiah-Davis (right). Keynote speaker Cynthia Barginere, Senior Vice President and President of Adult Services spoke about the importance of mentoring while maintaining authenticity, courage, and optimism.

UCSF Health PRIDE Values Professionalism • Respect • Integrity • Diversity • Excellence
Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for (audience)? Why should they care (benefit)? What do I want them to do (call-to-action)?
Create a great offer by adding words like "free," "personalized," "complimentary," or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take action, so consider inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining!"
