Success Story

Ripple Effect: Stories of Impact from Partners In Learning

As we celebrate 30 years of serving children and families, we are honored to begin our 30 Impact Stories Series with the story of our Executive Director, Norma Honeycutt — whose journey reflects the heart of Partners In Learning.

Norma joined Partners In Learning 28 years ago as a young mother of five with over two decades of experience in early childhood education and program leadership. Although she brought tremendous passion and expertise, she also felt the weight of not yet having completed her college degree. Still, our Board of Directors recognized her commitment to children and families and believed deeply in her potential. They took a chance — and named her Executive Director just months before she completed her associate degree.

With encouragement, financial support, and a culture that uplifts others, Partners In Learning became the springboard for Norma’s academic and professional growth. She went on to complete her associate degree, earn her bachelor’s degree, and ultimately achieve her master’s degree — all while guiding the organization forward.

Today, nearly three decades later, Norma has helped shape Partners In Learning into a statewide leader in early care, education, and family support. Her leadership has raised standards, expanded services, and strengthened our connection to the community. Just as important, Norma continues to pay that support forward by mentoring and empowering others to grow.

The investment Partners In Learning made in one emerging leader created a ripple effect that has now touched thousands of children, families, educators, and community partners. This is what impact looks like. This is the power of believing in people.

And this is just the beginning — stay tuned as we continue sharing stories that celebrate 30 years of growth, resilience, and community.

PIL Expands Early Intervention Efforts with New Community Funding

We are proud to share that Partners In Learning has been awarded funding by the Rowan County Health Department through opioid settlement dollars to expand critical prevention and early-intervention services for children, families, and caregivers. This support will allow PIL to grow its Positive Parenting Program (Triple P) — including trauma-informed Levels 4 and 5 — and to implement evidence-based relationship-focused interventions such as Child-Parent and Child-Teacher Relationship Training. These programs are designed to strengthen family resilience, improve emotional regulation, and build protective factors that reduce the risk of future substance-use challenges among youth. We are honored to partner with local agencies in this community-driven effort to promote well-being and healthy development for children and families across Rowan County.

PIL Professional Tip of the Month

It takes Two to Talk!

Your child doesn’t need flashcards or fancy toys to build strong language skills — they need you. Talking with your child throughout the day helps build vocabulary, confidence, and communication skills.

Narrate what you’re doing, ask open-ended questions, and give your child time to respond — even if their words aren’t clear yet. Every conversation, no matter how small, helps their brain grow.

🎥 Watch this short video to see easy ways to encourage your child to talk during everyday moments.
