‘Love God; And Love Each Other.’ – Jesus
|
|
Thank you for joining us online and connecting with us.
God’s dream for the world is that we live in just peace and tender harmony, fostering a global community in which each members’ rights and responsibilities are affirmed and fulfilled. This community is marked by ‘love,’ in thought, word, and deed. For Christians, there’s nothing esoteric about this ‘love’ – it is visible, tangible, measureable – which means, for the Church, it’s also something we can, and do, practice together.

Mardi Gras @ Home Recipes and More!
While we are unable to celebrate in person, and in our effort to maintain this spirit and in keeping with these unique times, we have collected Mardi Gras related recipes from St. Markans for you to savor and enjoy.
A very special thank you goes Saint Markans for their flavorful contributions. Note: Apply hot sauces to your taste while listening to “Queen Ida and Her Bon Temps Zydeco Band”, among others.
Also included to compliment and complete your celebration is a Mardi Gras mask and link to print your own. Decorate extravagantly, or very simply, and send us a photo! Plus, as we do during Lent, you can put away the celebratory word “Alleluia”. Print, decorate and place out of sight and then retrieve as we celebrate the risen Christ at Easter.

Godly Play – Playing For Lent
During Lent, we get ready to experience the Mystery of Easter. Getting ready for things takes many forms. It can be practical like getting dressed, logging in or cleaning the kitchen. It can be settling ourselves with deep breaths or deliberate activities. It can be gathering information. It can be opening our minds, hearts, and imaginations through play. We think of Lent as a serious time. None the less for some of us, including adults, play may be our key to a holy Lent. Play is serious. Never underestimate its power. Play can’t be forced but you can give yourself permission to play - for a day, a minute, or a minute every day for 40 days.
In Godly Play we’ll be telling stories of the life of Jesus and stories Jesus told, parables. Parables are among the most obviously playful presentations in Godly Play. They invite us to the fun of creating simple metaphors. They draw us into stories that often begin, “The kingdom of heaven is like...,” they help us imagine possibilities of what the images in the story could really be. They invite us to deepen, wondering if we’ve ever come close to such a place or where this place could really be.
Give yourself some moments to play. May you have a holy and wonderful Lent.
For more information about Godly Play or our Zoom sessions, Sundays at 9:45 –10:15 a.m., contact Monica Kruger, Godly Play Coordinator.

Lent Madness 2021 Vote online for your favorite saint!
The format is straightforward: 32 saints are placed into a tournament-like single elimination bracket. Each pairing remains open for a set period of time and people vote for their favorite saint. 16 saints make it to the Round of the Saintly Sixteen; eight advance to the Round of the Elate Eight; four make it to the Faithful Four; two to the Championship; and the winner is awarded the coveted Golden Halo. The first round consists of basic biographical information about each of the 32 saints. Things get a bit more interesting in the subsequent rounds as we offer quotes and quirks, explore legends, and even move into the area of saintly kitsch.
Go to the Lent Madness site to sign up for email alerts, download a full bracket poster, and find out so much more!

The Gospel of Mark
This liturgical year, we are hearing readings from the Gospel of Mark.
During our recent discussions of the Gospel of Mark several people mentioned having heard the gospel recited in its entirety. Hearing the entire gospel read out loud in this manner is a powerful way to experience the Jesus story from start to finish. You will hear connections and resonances within the narrative they you may have missed.
This reading is by the distinguished British actor David Suchet, known for his portrayal of Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot. It was performed at St. Paul's Cathedral in London.
