How to Find Beginning Genealogy Books at ITPLD by Tina Antosiak

The ITPLD has a Genealogy & Local History collection that contains a variety of resources for researching Genealogy Basics. Some of the resources include books, magazines and handouts. Our collection offers Genealogy books at all levels of experience on a range of topics. These books offer insight into using databases, avenues for accessing and deciphering records and best practice for preservation and organization.

A starting Genealogy book that presents a good place to begin familiarizing yourself within the field of Genealogy would be: Unpuzzling Your Past: A Basic Guide to Genealogy, 4th Ed. by Emily Anne Croom (929.1072 CRO). The book cover is showcased on the right.
Zero to Hero: From Bullied Kid to Warrior
by Allen James Lynch

Zero to Hero is the autobiography of the Medal of Honor recipient Allen James Lynch. He describes his life in Chicago before, during and after World War II. Lynch has written a story that speaks to all of us - he talks about the trials and adversities he faced and the real stuff that heroes are made of. This book was recently added to our collection after Lynch presented his program to the ITPLD in November 2020. You can view his program here on our YouTube channel.
