Join us for Worship
Sunday, July 18th 2021
8:30AM in the Sanctuary or 10:00AM Online
Let’s gather together as God’s people to offer our praise and our worship and enjoy a time of fellowship with one another. This Sunday we will continue our summer sermon series on the Parables of Jesus. In this week’s scripture we hear about a landowner who has a mixed up sense of business when he pays the same wages for workers who worked all day and those who worked only part of a day. And when the all-day workers grumble, Jesus quotes the landowner as saying, “Are you envious because I am generous?” Are we envious, when God seems generous with his grace for someone besides us? I wonder what it is that God will say to us through these words and images?
Sermon: Grace
Scripture: Matthew 20: 1-16

"For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. After agreeing with the laborers for the usual daily wage, he sent them into his vineyard."
-Matthew 20: 1-2
"When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his manager, ‘Call the laborers and give them their pay, beginning with the last and then going to the first.’ When those hired about five o’clock came, each of them received the usual daily wage. Now when the first came, they thought they would receive more; but each of them also received the usual daily wage. And when they received it, they grumbled against the landowner,"
-Matthew 20: 8-11
"But he replied to one of them, ‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong; did you not agree with me for the usual daily wage? Take what belongs to you and go; I choose to give to this last the same as I give to you. Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or are you envious because I am generous?’ So the last will be first, and the first will be last.”
-Matthew 20: 13-16

Starting last Sunday we began a seven week sermon series on some of the parables in the Bible. The schedule will be as follows:
July 11th The Kingdom Mark 4:26-32
July 18th Grace Matthew 20:1-16
July 25th Prayer Luke 11:5-13
August 8th Forgiveness Matthew 18:21-35
August 15th Stewardship Matthew 25:14-30
August 22nd Neighboring Luke 10:25-37
August 29th Blessing the Fragments John 6:1-21
It isn’t always clear what the message is when we read parables and the message can even change for us over time, but these “word pictures” give us a new lens in which to view God’s story, as well as His call on our life. I wonder what we’ll hear?
Peace,
Pastor Dawn

Change of Worship Service Time

Dear SMR Family,
The past 15 months has been a challenge for us all, in so many ways. I have been so thankful that our church family has remained supportive and patient throughout this unprecedented time. So let me say, thank you. For your understanding and support and care. It has made this time so much easier than it could have been otherwise. I am so saddened when I hear of churches that struggled with divisions and anger during this time. While none of us can know what the future holds, we are excited to begin to truly move forward. I am looking forward to getting to know you all better and, in a whole new way, to be part of the fellowship here at Six Mile Run. It will be good to be together to worship, to share, to grow, in new ways. To that end, the consistory has decided to make some changes to our worship schedule. Please know that we are committed, ongoing, to offering both in person and online worship. Please also know that we will do everything we can to be safe and responsible, whatever arises.
As you know, we have been having an abbreviated worship service at 8:30 each Sunday, as well as online worship at 10:00. We will continue with this schedule for the month of July. Beginning on August 1st we will return to one service, offered both in person and online, at 9:30. We will hold this 9:30 service time through September 5th. Then on September 11th we will return to our 10:00 worship time. I am so thankful to the consistory, the reopening committee, and the search committee for the hard decisions that they have had to make along the way. I am also so thankful for the various committees that made sure that everything went well during this unpredictable time. It is good to gather together again, to worship our God!!
As always, if you should have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to either myself or a consistory member.
Peace,
Pastor Dawn

Pastoral Search Committee
|
In late April our Consistory voted the reconvene the Pastoral Search Committee that was paused in August 2020 due to Covid-19 conditions throughout the country.
The members of the Pastoral Search Committee were delighted to be able reconvene to continue its work on behalf of SMR. The members of the committee resumed the process by notifying the list of applicants that the search process has resumed and inquired if the applicant is still interested in being considered, now that the interviews can be held in person with minimal risks and diligent safety precautions.
For the individuals that confirmed their interested and have successfully completed the application package, the Search Committee has begun scheduling the initial interview. One initial interview has been conducted. The committee is currently in the process of scheduling three more interviews.
Meanwhile the search process will continue in concert with the ongoing interview process.
Grateful for your ongoing support and prayer.
