For one night every August, neighborhoods around Wichita gather to share food, fun, and friendship. The night, of course, is Neighborhood Night Out, and this year it is taking place on Tuesday, August 9th.
Neighborhood Night Out is a city-wide event modeled after National Night Out. It is intended to build community and bring neighbors together. Registered parties can request a visit from members of the Wichita Police Department and Wichita Fire Department who serve in your area. I plan to attend as many District 5 parties as possible each year.
Currently, there are 37 parties registered throughout the city, 5 of those are in District 5. If you are considering hosting a party with your neighbors, make sure your application is submitted by Tuesday, August 2nd.
I encourage anyone interested to click the link below for more information. If you have already registered your party, we look forward to attending as many parties as we can on the 9th!

City Extending Relief from High Temperatures

With the Wichita area continuing to face high temperatures for the next week, the City of Wichita is continuing efforts to provide relief to residents in need.
Residents may continue to ride Wichita Transit for free until the end of the day Saturday, July 30. City buses and trolleys have air conditioning and Wi-Fi, and residents are invited to utilize buses as a way to beat the heat. Routes and other information are available on wichitatransit.org.
The ICT Street Team will continue to be out at various times daily checking on people, passing out cold water and electrolyte packets and addressing any medical concerns as they arise. The Wichita Homeless Outreach Team will also continue passing out water and connecting unhoused residents with open shelters and services.
Our Wichita Public Libraries are always a great respite for any extreme weather – our libraries have AC, technology, comfortable seating, have water fountains, and an endless supply of learning and entertainment for all ages. You can also find hours, events and locations at wichitalibrary.org.
The Neighborhood Resource Centers have water and air conditioning for anyone who needs it. You can find our neighborhood resource centers at:

The City of Wichita’s air quality program encourages Wichita area residents to reduce harmful lawn-related emissions by using cleaner electric, battery-operated, and self-propelled lawn equipment.
