Lake Ontario, August 2025, is this a selfie?

I spent a whole lot of my non-work time doing non-work things, which means I was on my computer less than usual. That's not a bad thing, but it means I don't have a ton to show for it. Oh look, a gif!

👆ugh, so close

That weirdness above is a screen recording of a strange interactive page I built to preview/test out my latest typeface Wintyr. I really, really thought I'd be releasing it in this email, but I still have a few little things to sort out. But I'm happy to share some bits from it, as it's the only non-work font I've spent time with in 2025 (wow). It's a monospace and has a variable weight and slant. I'm pretty fond of it.

The goal now is to get it on Public Type Works by the end of September. I'll obviously give a shout in the next newsletter, or maybe even a shout on IG.

NEW BLOG POST

Reading (p)recap

Another "ah crap, AI is good for something else" but luckily, it's not design or illustration or turning still images of dogs in costumes into videos of dogs in costumes. It's book recommendation bot.

OLD CLASSIC

Atlantic at Acadia

It's exactly what it sounds like. Emphasis on the sounds, as this post exists only to highlight five minutes of waves crashing on the rocky Maine coastline. The microphone is in that photo above.

SHORTY

Big shoutout to all my parent friends who limped their way through the end of summer. Unless you're on a teacher's schedule, or privileged enough to not have to work for like two months, juggling work and kid schedules during the hottest months of the year is harder than running a marathon. But now that school is only a few days away and the nights are in the upper 40ºs (fahrenheit) maybe it's a good time to start training for a marathon?
