Dear Grammar School Families,
Thank you for your commitment to classical education that reaches both the hearts and minds of your children. Your patience and understanding as we navigate this challenge are felt and appreciated.
After conducting a walk through of the 11th street campus late on Friday, we determined that it will not be ready for students on the first day of school, August 19, 2024. As such, we have obtained a certificate of occupancy for First United Methodist on 5601 5th Street. Kinder and First grade students will attend the first week of school at First United Methodist Church in their Family Life Center. Second-Fourth grade students will attend the first week of school at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church on 5356 11th Street.
This decision was made in order to give the contractors and their teams additional time to complete more of the renovations and to work with the City of Katy to obtain necessary clearances. This updated timeline will allow us to hopefully bring additional grade levels back to 11th street next week. In the meantime, we are grateful for the kindness and hospitality afforded to our Aristoi community by St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church and First United Methodist Church; they are indeed wonderful neighbors! Both facilities are located in Historic Katy and have classroom space and large gymnasiums for our students to enjoy. We will update you again later this week as to the reopening of the 11th street campus and the plan going forward.
Please see carline maps for First United Methodist and St Bartholomew's below. There is also a third map that highlights the preferred route between the two churches. Walkers from St. Bartholomew will be released at the end of carpool at 3:30 in front of the youth building; please see map for exact location. Walkers from First United Methodist will be released at the end of carpool at 3:30 at the Northwest corner of Avenue B and 5th street; please see the map for the exact location. Daycares that provide transportation for scholars have been contacted about this arrangement.
Kindergarten parents may walk their scholar into class on Monday, August 19. After that, the staff will assist scholars in finding their classrooms.
Carline times remain the same: 7:20-7:40 for drop off and 3:10-3:30 for pick up. We will certainly extend grace for tardies and pick-ups during this time that our Grammar School is at two different locations. We know that many of you also have children at the Logic and Rhetoric campus and the staff there too, will extend grace.
For students who participate in the YMCA program, Aristoi staff will be able to receive them in the morning at both locations from 6:45-7:20. However, the YMCA cannot provide after school care until we are back at the 11th street campus. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
All students need only bring their backpacks, lunch if not buying one, a water bottle, and snacks on the first day of school. We will provide all materials for the time being. Once we are back in the Grammar School Katy Campus building, we will have Sprouts school supplies delivered to the scholars’ classrooms or if scholars are bringing school supplies from home, we will let you know when to bring them.
Breakfast and lunch will be available at both First United Methodist and St. Bartholomew Catholic Church locations. Students will eat lunch, participate in PE, and have recess in the gymnasiums at both locations. Specials classes will continue at both campuses. Student Care will be available on both campuses as well.
While we are eager to be reunited at 11th street, we are excited to begin the school year and see all of our Griffins on Monday!
Sincerely,
Brenda Davidson
