Message from the Minister:
Board Transitions Update

Hello Mountain Vista!

Shared leadership and governance is part of our spiritual practice. We believe in the power of leaders from within a community to make the best decisions in collaboration with that community in support of its mission and vision.

With that, I want to update you all on a recent Board transition!

Bill Casey, your elected Board Secretary, recently resigned from his position. We are so grateful for Bill's remarkable service to the Board. During my time with you, he has served as a liaison to our PMT, supported our Justice Coordinating Committee in re-imagining its role in developing vibrant Justice Teams, and co-led with me our Mission and Vision process last year. I am personally grateful to Bill's good humor and his consistent reminder that our mission and vision is the most important "why" of why we come together.

As per our Bylaws, when a Board resignation takes place mid-term, it is the role of the Nominating Committee to nominate a new leader and for the Board to approve the nomination. In light of his resignation, your Nominating Committee discerned a possible replacement for Bill's remaining months of leadership.

We are thrilled to announce that Theda Ellis has accepted the nomination to serve as your Board Secretary, filling Bill Casey's role for the remainder of this year. Theda's nomination was wholeheartedly approved by the Board. We are grateful for Theda's care and attention to our financial well-being and her extensive non-profit experience, her passion for Contigo, and her desire that Mountain Vista thrive in its next phase of life.

I offer my gratitude to Bill Casey, Theda Ellis, our Nominating Committee, and our Board for their leadership, discernment, and service. You all make this community happen.

With joy and thanks,
Rev. Samantha

(P.S. Please sign up for office hours! I have so enjoyed the phone calls, Zoom calls, and in-person visits recently. You do not need a reason or a special topic -- just come because it is good to be connected. Sign up here.)

August Woven Basket: MVUU School Partnerships

Neighbors Helping Neighbors

Our MVUU School Partnerships social justice team is helping Laguna and Hendricks Elementary schools with some of their needs. Because our congregation’s new home is within the Flowing Wells Unified School District boundaries, we are reaching out to our neighbors. In this spirit, we work closely with the schools’ principals to identify areas where we can assist. They and their staffs have welcomed our help and look forward to our participation.

You can help by contributing to this month’s Woven Basket. Your contributions will be used to purchase educational materials, school supplies, gift cards and clothing. Over a hundred backpacks and school supplies have already been purchased for students who begin their new school year in early August.

Several of our team members will be assisting teachers in the classroom during the new school year. If you would like to become a member of our team, please Email Chuck Tatum or (520) 262-3270.

Donate via MVUU as the Woven Basket Partner: You can make your donations online at http://mvuu.org/donate/ or by sending a check to the Church Office. The mailing address is: MVUU, P. O. Box 91080, Tucson AZ 85752. Please indicate that this donation is for the "Woven Basket."
