Did You Know?
Boise Offers Free Pre-Approved ADU Plans
Have you ever thought about adding a small home to your property for an aging parent, adult child, guests or even potential rental income?
The City of Boise is making the process a little easier with its Pre-Approved Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) Program. The city offers several pre-approved ADU designs, with options ranging from small detached studios to larger units and designs located above a garage.
The plans themselves are provided by the City of Boise at no cost, which can potentially save homeowners some of the upfront design work and expense normally associated with planning an ADU.
Of course, having a pre-approved plan doesn't automatically mean an ADU can be built on every property. Lot size, setbacks, utilities, zoning, site conditions, permitting and other requirements still need to be considered.
Why Consider an ADU?
An ADU can provide homeowners with a lot of flexibility. It could be used as:
- A private space for aging parents
- Housing for adult children or extended family
- Guest accommodations
- A home office or additional living space
- A potential source of rental income
With housing costs continuing to be a concern for many families, ADUs can also provide another option for multigenerational living or aging in place, while allowing family members to maintain their own private space.
Curious whether an ADU might work on your property? Feel free to reach out. I'd be happy to help you look at your property and point you in the right direction.
I also have a local ADU builder contact. If you're considering building an ADU and would like their information, just reach out and I'd be happy to send it your way.
