As followers of Jesus, we are called to create abundant life in beloved community with each other and with our neighbors.

On Sunday, September 29^th, we inaugurate The Call to Serve by gathering in the Banquet Room. Choose to attend whatever hour-long session is most convenient for you, beginning at either 9:15 a.m. or 12:15 p.m. Learn “why” our fall focus is “Sharing Abundance: Feeding the Hungry.” Discover the unique Wednesday night “Connecting Circles” being offered on select Wednesday nights and the ROTA of service opportunities planned with our local partners--First Nations Kitchen, Groveland Food Shelf, and Sunday Night Supper. Grab this chance to chat informally with service site representatives and our Cathedral veteran volunteers, sign up for special emails, and for service dates.

“Connecting Circles” launch on Wednesday October 2, offering unique opportunities for connecting, listening, and discerning about service. NOTE: Round Table dinners will take place on Wednesday nights between Connecting Circles meetings, see below.

Join other Saint Markans in serving at First Nations Kitchen (October 6) and

Sunday Night Supper (October 13).

Connecting Circles

October 2 and 9, November 6 and 13, 6:00 pm

Holy Lord, maker of us all, 

You call us to love our neighbors as ourselves and teach us that faith without works is dead. 

Open us to the opportunities for ministry that lie before us, where faith and works and the need of our neighbor come together in the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen.

Please consider Connecting Circles this fall, as another opportunity to grow in relationship with God and with others. Circles are an integral part of this year of “The Call to Serve.” Begin the evening with Evening Prayer at 5:30 pm, bring a bag lunch for a meal if desired. The program itself will begin at 6:15. Episcopal 101 and 201

If you have wondered about the history, theology, and practices of the Episcopal Church, or if you are considering membership or being confirmed in the church, you will want to consider Episcopal 101 and 201 classes.

An all-star cast of teachers introduce you to what the Episcopal Church understands about the Bible, Jesus, the Sacraments, the Creeds, and so much more. The classes meet every Sunday in the Heritage Room at 9:15 am, between services. The first, Episcopal 101, is more introductory and the second, Episcopal 201, explores some important theological and ethical issues. You can attend as many or few sessions as you'd like.

Men's Breakfast!

On Saturday, September 28 we will hold the first of what we hope to be monthly meetings of a new men's fellowship group. We will meet at 9:00 AM in the library for coffee and bagels. We will discuss our purpose as a group, study scripture, pray, and share Holy Communion--and do it all in an hour! We hope that this group will not only pray together, but serve together for the good of the ministries of Saint Mark's. If you have any questions, contact Jay Phelan at jayp@ourcathedral.org. Gospel Based Discipleship

Returns Friday, October 4, 12:15 pm, online via Zoom

Gospel Based Discipleship is not a formal Bible study. There is a convener but no teacher.  Focusing on the Gospel selection prescribed for the upcoming Sunday, we ask three questions, reading the passage each time.

1. What word(s), idea(s), or phrase(s) stand out for you?
2. What is the Gospel saying to you?
3. What is the Gospel calling you to do?

Sharing our responses, we listen and learn. Members take away their own inspiration from an encounter with Jesus in the company of others who are seeking deeper discipleship.

We meet every Friday at 12:15 pm via Zoom and aim to keep the meeting to 30-35 minutes. Join any week that you can. Access the Zoom link here.

Opportunity to Serve: First Nations Kitchen

Many thanks to those of you who've already signed up! 

During the Prep/Set Up shift, 12:30-3 pm, helpers bag up fresh produce and also dish up a warm entree--up to 70 bags are given away and over 100 hot entrees. 5 more people are still needed for this shift.

The Give Away shift is from 3:30-5:30 pm. Tables are set up on the curb, outside the church's South Door, located on 31st Street. Neighbors stop by to pick up the food.  6 more people are still needed for this shift. Spanish speakers are especially welcome to help during this shift.

Women's Fellowship

Are you interested in meeting other women at Saint Mark's? Join us for friendship and conversation on the second Thursday of each month at 6:00 pm, until about 7:30 pm. Garden Love: Saint Mark's Pollinator Garden

The wine poppy is a persistent magenta presence in the pollinator garden. It will flower until frost. While it is listed by the MN DNR as a native, in the wild, it is found only in the Kellog-Weaver Dunes SNA, (and Saint Mark's pollinator garden). The annuals that we planted with contributions from the congregation are also more visible as the garden changes to fall colors.

Morning Prayer

Once again this year we will have Morning Prayer in the Nave weekly at 9:00 AM on Tuesdays. Different members of the Cathedral community will lead the service. You are not only invited to participate, but to lead the service. Morning Prayer is one of the most beautiful and profound services in the Book of Common Prayer. It can be done as an individual, but is wonderful shared in community. We hope to see you there.

Children's Worship

For children 8 and younger. Each Sunday during the 10:30 service, the gospel story will be shared in an age-appropriate format (and that may include crayons!), along with prayer and music.  We will leave the 10:30 worship at the time of the Gradual hymn, just before the Gospel, and return at the time of the Peace. Parents are invited to join in too, but it isn’t necessary.  

Knitting Group

Saint Mark’s has had a group of dedicated knitters for many years. We make prayer shawls, scarves, and baby blankets to bless and give to those in need. We welcome new knitters, no matter what your skill level is. We meet on the first and third Tuesday of the month from 10:30 to noon in the library. Please join us!
