A Letter from David Kahn, President of the Board of Trustees
|
Dear Crossroads Community,
The Crossroads Board of Trustees is committed to supporting and sustaining our school’s vibrant community while keeping an eye on the costs of high-quality education. After careful and deliberate planning, at its December 2019 meeting the Board of Trustees approved Crossroads Academy’s tuition for the 2020-2021 academic year: $19,950 for grades one through eight and $14,500 for kindergarten.
The Board of Trustees enthusiastically continues to support Crossroads Academy’s unique Core Knowledge and Core Virtues programs. As we consider the campus master plan and finalize the design for our new middle school building, we hope to provide a great environment for students to learn while attracting and retaining dedicated and talented teachers. Like many other independent schools, even with the careful budgeting, the tuition revenue at Crossroads does not fully cover the operating expenses of the school. The shortfall is met by the generous donations of our community members, primarily through the Crossroads Fund.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, thank you for the many ways you support Crossroads, and together, we look forward to a great 2020-21 school year.
Sincerely,
David Kahn
President, Board of Trustees

Teachers pack a lot into every day at Crossroads! And now that we’re approaching the mid-way point of the school year, teachers are able to evaluate yearly goals for student learning and make adjustments to their instruction. So as teachers gain a better understanding of learning styles for each of their students, they can skillfully encourage growth in ways that are challenging and engaging as well as attainable and rewarding. Future learning objectives can be customized within a "sweet spot" for impactful learning—content and a pace that is neither too easy nor too difficult. So while teachers cover their curricula during the winter months, they are simultaneously thinking about where to set the bar for the spring and beyond. We have a lot of ground to cover between now and June, and we are excited to witness all of the learning that will take place along the way.
Yours truly, Brad

On Friday, two finalists from each class in 4th-8th grade participated in Crossroads' annual National Geographic GeoBee competion. The students were each asked a geography question and were given 15 seconds to answer in front of the audience. In the end, 6th grader Gael came out victorious! Elizabeth in 5th grade was the runner-up. Gael will go on to take an online test in hopes of qualifying for the State Finals in the spring, and then the national competition after that. The final winner will be awarded a college scholarship and a prize trip. Good luck, Gael!

A Quilt is Worth a Thousand Words
|
In Art Class, the sixth grade students had the opportunity to create and showcase a collaborative artwork inspired by the musical Annie. The quilt design features characters and symbols from the show as well as highlighting core virtues that connect to the play. This will be exhibited at the Silver Center at Plymouth State College during the run of the show.
For more information on the quilt display, or show times, please contact

Unfortunately, our brains never evolved to have dual processors. Had they developed in this way, we would be able to focus on two cognitive tasks simultaneously, just as our smart phones can surf the web while calling a friend or send a text while playing music.
