HAPPENING THIS WEEKEND

Teitelbaum Update and Request for Meals

Music Director Kajsa Teitelbaum wrote to say their daughter Signe may be discharged from the hospital within a few days, much earlier than expected: the liver transplant she received from her father Ben was only 7 days ago, Friday 1/9. A Meal Train is in place, but we didn't expect Signe, Kajsa, and Ben to be home so soon. We have now added slots for meals this week. Please sign up to help by providing a meal. All details and instructions are in the Meal Train site. Thank you for helping take care of this beloved family.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Narrative Project

Reading Circles Forming Now

Two stories dominate American Christianity: one of decline, another of power yoked to nationalist extremism. The Narrative Project of The Christian Century magazine makes space for a truer telling – stories of faith that are alive, generous, and rooted in love. Our congregation has been selected to join churches nationwide in monthly reading circles beginning late January or early February. Together we will read, meet in small groups, and reflect on our faith. Participants receive a one-year subscription to The Christian Century. Interested in being part of a group?

Are You Discerning...

About your Stewardship pledge? We have two more weeks until we ask you to make your 2026 commitment to our annual budget. To meet our proposed budget we must have an increase in pledge dollars of 3.5% as well as a one-time gift again this year of $50,000 – we hope for the last time. If you have not received the Stewardship mailing (large white envelope) including your personal letter, please email us now or call 303-442-1787 ext 0. The materials are very informative and we think they will give you all the tips you need. We look forward to everyone participating at the level that is right for them – it takes all of us! Please plan to pledge by Sunday, February 1 when we celebrate our gratitude together during the church service.

First Congregational and EPIC:

What the Data Says

Sunday, 1/25, 9:00 a.m. | Standish Room

What are the latest trends from the Exploring the Pandemic Impact

on Congregations (EPIC) research project, and how does First Congregational Church compare with these trends? Join Rev. Dr. Kristina Lizardy-Hajbi in exploring answers to this question, learning about the results of our congregation-wide survey, and discussing what this all means from the broader perspective of U.S. congregational life today.

Newcomers Coffee

Sunday, 1/25, 11:45 a.m. | Heritage Room

Are you new to the First Congregational Church community, looking to find out more, and get better connected? Join us on the 4th Sunday of the month, after worship, to get to know some of our staff and leaders at First Congregational, and learn more about the many ways you can get involved including joining us as a member. Kids are welcome to attend with their parents.

Capital Campaign Possibility

Sunday, 2/1, 9:00 a.m. | Standish Room

A Capital Campaign is a fund-raising effort, typically spread over two to three years, that is separate from our annual stewardship efforts and has a specific goal and purpose. We are exploring a campaign that would boost our Capital Needs Endowment. This would ultimately enable us to fund a larger portion of our annual facilities expenses from Endowment revenue, thereby relieving pressure on our annual pledging. To learn more, please join the Capital Campaign Feasibility Committee for the Adult Forum on February 1 at 9:00 a.m. in the Standish Room.

Symposium on Spirituality & the Environment

Sunday, 2/1 at 1:30 p.m. | Har Hashem Sanctuary – Register

At this year’s Symposium Rev. Dr. Allen Ewing-Merrill, Executive Director of The BTS Center, will invite us to explore the psycho-social-spiritual dimensions of the climate crisis, the array of climate emotions — climate anxiety, ecological grief, moral injury, and solastalgia — as well as the invitation to practices of gratitude, wonder, and hope. We’ll consider how Creation invites us into relationship as healer, teacher, and friend. Register here.

Star Word

Pick one up in the Link!

On Epiphany, we remember how a Star guided the Magi to the place where they found the Christ child. In keeping with their journey to move closer to Jesus, we invite you to move through the year with intention and in prayer. Pick up a Star Word envelope with instructions at church or request the church office mail you one. Place your Star Word in a prominent place in your home or work and pay attention to where it shows up in your life. Allow the word on the star to be a lens through which you look for and listen to God in our life. All year long.
