Dear Friend of CCSD93,
Three Staff Members Earn CCSD93 Personalized Education Certificate!
Congratulations to Western Trails Art Teacher Jamie Scheufler, Carol Stream School 2nd Grade Teacher Marie Sepsakos, and Carol Stream School 4th Grade Teacher Shelly Collins for recently being awarded CCSD93's Personalized Education Certificate!

Only a handful of our staff members have earned the certificate, which signifies that they've devoted themselves completely to personalizing their students' educational experience.
Each has participated in 540 hours of CCSD93's Personalized Learning professional development series, and each has experience professional growth throughout the process. The end result is that their students will receive a more relevant, engaging, and personal education.

Congratulations to Jamie, Marie, and Shelly!

Birth to 5 Let's Play a Terrific Time for Young Families
Hundreds of community members brought their young children to the 2nd annual Birth to 5 Community Coalition's Let's Play event last Saturday! Families with children five and younger enjoyed multiple indoor play stations featuring materials and activities tailored specifically toward these young ones.

Thank you to all who attended, and to all of our community partners, like the police and fire departments, the park districts, the public libraries, and more who came out for the event. Attendees were able to connect with them and various other Birth to 5 Community Coalition members, which are community organizations that provide care and services for our community's youngest children.

If you have a child age birth to five, be sure to check out the Community Coalition's website at www.ccsd93.com/birthto5 or give them a call at 630-307-3750 to see what community resources they can connect you with. Here are some photos from the day!

No School 1/21 for MLK Day
There will be no school on Monday, January 21 as we recognize Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and acknowledge his tremendous contributions towards the civil rights movement and greater equality throughout the country.

In CCSD93, we've initiated an Excellence and Equity Committee with the purpose of identifying achievement gaps and barriers that exist in District processes that can inhibit students from receiving an equitable, relevant education and prevent families from feeling connected to our schools. We hope that the work of the committee honors Dr. King's legacy and the ideals he represented. We will share more on the Excellence and Equity Committee in the near future.

Have a terrific long weekend! We'll see you Tuesday!

Sincerely,

Bill Shields, Ed.D.
