Chamber Alliance releases fourth quarter report
The Northern Michigan Chamber Alliance released its fourth quarterly report of the year covering the months of October-December. Full report.
The Alliance spent the fall attending a number of events with local and state policymakers, including the Northwest Michigan Housing Summit.
| |
Concerns remain on energy policy - Legislation calling for a 100% clean energy standard in the state of Michigan was signed in November by Gov. Whitmer. The Northern Michigan Chamber Alliance, in collaboration with the Coalition for Clean and Renewable Energy (CCARE), advocated for changes to support sensible, clean energy initiatives. The objective is to safeguard the environment, keep energy rates low, and maintain reliability without compromising affordability, especially for small business owners, including manufacturers.
As current energy policy reforms set ambitious goals, strong concerns remain within the business community in northern Michigan and across the state. While we agree with the ultimate aim to achieve 100% clean energy, it is crucial to establish feasible goals for electric companies and cooperatives.
The Northern Michigan Chamber Alliance anticipates ongoing discussions and remains committed to ensuring that the voice of the business community in Northern Michigan is emphatically heard in the next phase of this process.

Center for the Arts hosts comedian Kermet Apio
Returning to the Great Lakes Center for the Arts on Friday, January 19th is comedian Kermet Apio. He was a fan favorite last summer when he opened for comedian Brian Regan, so we've invited him back to kick off the New Year. Raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, Kermet has called Seattle, Washington, home since college. Kermet, a self-proclaimed playful procrastinator, broke into the comedy scene in the late 90s.
After that first open mic night at the Comedy Underground in Seattle, Kermet was hooked and soon ditched the security of a 9-to-5 to embrace performing and making audiences laugh full-time.
In the years since that leap of faith, Kermet took first place at the 2009 Great American Comedy Festival, appeared on the small screen and over the airwaves, and performed in almost all 50 states, plus three Canadian provinces – not bad, eh? Get ready to laugh away the calories gained over the fun holiday season. Tickets are now available.
