Denver Parks & Recreation | August 7, 2025

Greetings from the department that makes Denver more vibrant! As usual, we have the best news and events galore to keep you in good spirits. Starting with the story of Park Hill Dave, a stray pup that has found his furever home with our leader Jolon Clark.

Your Art on Cherry Creek Trail 🎨

We're seeking 16 local artists to create murals near downtown Denver for the first Cherry Creek Trail Wall Fest, a one-day installation and celebration of public art. If selected, artists will receive a $1,500 commission. There's no set theme, just an invitation to showcase your unique style and help beautify one of Denver’s most iconic urban trails.

Deadline to apply: August 17 at 11:59 PM.

2 Downtown Parks Score Major 💸

Mayor Mike Johnston and the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) announced $100M in approved DDA funding for transformative downtown Denver projects. Among the selected initiatives, Skyline Park and Civic Center Park will receive necessary improvements to activate these spaces and increase accessibility. For more project details visit denvergov.org/parkprojects.

Let's Talk Trees 🌳

Did you know Denver originally had no trees? Most of the trees we've come to love in our city were intentionally planted! Podcast host Stephanie sits down with Denver’s new City Forester, Luke Killoran, to discuss this hot topic and explore our unique urban canopy. And the pesky little bug that finally made its way to Denver: the Emerald Ash Borer. Tune into the Denver Playcast podcast to learn more!
