Dear friends and neighbors,

We did it! With your very generous support, OCT has met our fundraising goal and has committed to protect 1 Boulder Lane in perpetuity. This important land will safeguard a habitat corridor between Twinings Pond and Shoal Pond, protect water quality, and preserve a scenic viewshed for the neighborhood.

OCT worked with our partners at The Compact of Cape Cod Conservation Trusts to obtain a low-interest loan and to apply for a state grant for the protection of this property. The Compact took title to the property in April, giving OCT time to raise the funds needed. You contributed almost $940,000 over three months, and over 40 households supported the project.

OCT land stewardship staff have inventoried the property to assess its natural resource values, and the habitat appears to be a healthy, self-sustaining system that will require minimal management. We will continue to monitor the property to ensure that invasive vegetation is kept in check, and we will welcome neighborhood involvement on future management of this property as well as the neighboring Twinings Pond Conservation Area.

We’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported this project. We’re incredibly grateful to work with the Orleans community towards our shared goal of protecting nature for people and wildlife.

We hope you’ll stay engaged with OCT going forward. Join one of our free guided walks or lectures, attend our annual meeting at the Orleans Yacht Club, or enjoy OCT’s trails on your own time, and please know that you’ve played a part in preserving a special place for future generations.

With thanks and appreciation,

Steve O’Grady
