Report Shows 1 in 3 New Yorkers Spend Half Their Income on Rent. We Need Social Housing and Rent Regulations!

Cooper Square Committee tenants rallied at the Rent Guidelines Board meeting earlier this year.

A new report from the Community Service Society analyzed the latest Housing and Vacancy Survey data from 2021. The report showed shocking numbers of low-income New Yorkers severely burdened by rent. The authors concluded that NYC needs to strengthen rent stabilization, invest in existing public housing, and build new social housing.

There has never been a more urgent time to join our campaigns to fight back against displacement and fight forward with social housing and community land trusts.

2023 Turkey Drive Fundraiser Raffle

Coming November 1 to 15!

Cooper Square Committee has partnered again with the Office of Assembly Member Harvey Epstein, Loisaida Inc., and the East Village Independent Merchants Association (EVIMA) to host another Thanksgiving food drive raffle.

During last year's fundraiser we exceeded our goal and raised $4,691, which allowed us to provide over 700 turkeys and pernils to members in need in our community. This year, we again want to reach or surpass our goal of $4000!

From Wednesday, November 1st, 2023 at 12:00 am to Wednesday, November 15th, 2023 at 11:59 pm, raffle tickets starting from $1 – $12 will be on sale. You can purchase tickets to win any of the 30+ prizes, which total over $2,300 in value! Raffle prizes include items and gift cards from local small businesses in the Lower East Side/East Village. Each prize will have its own winner and you can purchase tickets for (and possibly win) multiple prizes!

All of the proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards purchasing food for our neighbors.
