‘Love God; And Love Each Other.’ – Jesus
|
|
Thank you for joining us online and connecting with us.
God’s dream for the world is that we live in just peace and tender harmony, fostering a global community in which each members’ rights and responsibilities are affirmed and fulfilled. This community is marked by ‘love,’ in thought, word, and deed. For Christians, there’s nothing esoteric about this ‘love’ – it is visible, tangible, measureable – which means, for the Church, it’s also something we can, and do, practice together.

Have you ever wondered why we bless pets and animals on Saint Francis Day? Until preparing this material, I wondered but did not know why. I was so excited to meet and bless all of your pets that I didn’t do any research until this year. A little of what I learned is enclosed along with a blessing and prayers for you and your animals.
The animals in our lives, whether pets or those we see in our neighborhoods, remind us that God’s creation is big and beautiful. We can ask God’s blessing on our pets or animals at any time, but the Feast of Saint Francis, which falls on October 4, is a special opportunity to do so.
If you don’t have a pet, consider the animals you see out your window: goldfinches, chipmunks, spiders or squirrels. Or consider sharing these prayers with your neighbors in creative ways like sidewalk chalk, window art or however you are inspired.
I am missing blessing your pets and know that others are missing gathering too. I am also noticing an excitement to bless my chiwussel, Rufus, within my neighborhood. This year, I'd like to share photos of Saint Mark’s pets and/or what you did for Saint Francis Day. Email all photos you’d like share to me by end of today, October 5, and I will post them on our social media for other Saint Mark’s members to see. By emailing me, you give me permission to share the photos on Saint Mark’s social media and webpage. I will not use names unless instructed to.
My prayers and love are with all of you this Saint Francis Day.
Peace, Anna V. Ostenso Moore

Fall Adult Formation on Wednesdays
The Episcopal Church is a Jesus movement. We don’t exist just for the benefit of our members but for everyone. We work for the rule of God that Jesus preached: a time of justice, peace, generosity, and wholeness. As God’s people we are called to make that rule present. But what does that mean for us as individuals and as a community? In the first fall forum sessions we will first explore these questions:
-
October 7, Rev. Katie Ernst will lead the conversation: “How does the Rule of God impact a place—a community, be it local or global.” Colossians 1:13-20.
-
October 14, Rev. Cody Maynus will lead the conversation: “What are the practices that shape individuals and communities in a Jesus movement?” How do individuals and communities follow Jesus as Lord? James 2:1-13.

Daily Practice
Daily practices for prayer, meditation, silence are one part of a balanced Rule of Life. The phrase Rule of Life comes from Saint Benedict, referring to the set of 73 directions for a monastic life written in the sixth century. This Rule of Saint Benedict is a series of insights into the art of living, with a rhythmic daily pattern of work, study, community and prayer.

How do you tell people about what a great community Saint Mark's is? It could be as easy as wearing your mask!
|
|
|
If you do not receive your mask in the mail or need an extra let us know here. And a tip; each mask has a set of loop adjusters in the bag. Use a small wire or paper clip to pull the ear loop through to tighten the ear loops to fit.
