Are you between 18 – 25 years? Come hang out on Wednesday, October 23 in the youth room and have pizza with people who feel the same. Created and led by people in their late teens to early/mid 20s, open to anyone who feels they miss that energy in their lives. We will gather and chat and discuss ideas for future events!

The Way of Love Group

Small faith-based groups are ideal for building our relationships with God and with one another. When we meet together for conversation, reflection, learning, and prayer, we can also discover how we might serve God’s people as we follow the Way of Jesus.

The Way of Love is just such a group. This 6-week online group experience explores The Way of Love and its seven practices – Turn, Learn, Pray, Worship, Bless, Go, and Rest.

Online sessions begin Tuesday, October 29, 6:30 - 7:30 pm. The Way of Love book is available in the Cathedral book shop.

These sessions are hosted by Joan Olson and Lois Satterberg, who look forward to your participation!

Contact Lois to register and receive the Zoom info: jlsatterberg@gmail.com

New Member Celebration and Welcome

Sunday, November 3 at 8 am and 10:30 am services

If you are ready to say Yes to growing as a disciple and Yes to becoming a member of Saint Mark’s, then Sunday November 3 is the day! Please contact Mary Lusk by October 28, to let her know you are ready. maryl@ourcathedral.org

And current members, please join in the celebration that day as we welcome new members into our faith community, during both morning services and afterwards in the Community room. Also during worship that morning, we will celebrate All the Saints who surround us daily and who have encircled us in the past.

Join Together in Prayer for Elections

A recent communication from our Provost addressed the pervasive polarization, anxiety, and fear of this election season:

As a community, we are invited to consider how we, even in our disagreements, can show up as people of faith who build bridges instead of walls, and remain committed to loving one another as siblings in Christ.

Our calling is to love, listen, and serve, as Christ did, grounded in God's grace and peace. And like our Lord, we become grounded through prayer.

In the final days and weeks leading up to the election and beyond, I invite you join in prayers for our nation and those around the world who are impacted by our leaders and policies.

Below is a link to a number of prayers from TEC here

Lastly, we are pleased to announce that the Cathedral will be open on Election Day (7 am – 8 pm) It will serve as safe and peaceful space for prayer, silence and tending to the heart. You are invited to join us, and to invite others.

Groveland Food Shelf desired items: preferably in smaller packaging and with pop tops! Canned fruit and vegetables. Ready to heat soups, chili, stews. Rice, pasta, ramen noodles. Cooking oil, flour (small amount), ground or instant coffee. Peanut butter (NOT natural); sweets (helpful for recovering addicts), granola bars, etc. Coconut milk, evaporated condensed milk. Gluten-free products. Clean, used egg cartons.

Garden Love: Saint Mark's Pollinator Garden

from Dana Dickson, Saint Mark's member

O ye dews and frosts, bless ye the Lord; O ye frost and cold, bless ye the Lord; O ye ice and snow, bless ye the Lord; praise him and magnify his forever. (Canticle 1, Book of Common Prayer)

The garden surprised me this week. I expected the frost that came to my house would have frozen the remaining blossoms. Much to my surprise, there were new flower blossoms to be found.

On Tuesday October 29, from 1 pm to 3 pm we will be doing a fall cleanup of the pollinator garden. All are welcome to help.

Join in the Adult Forums, offered Sunday mornings at 9:15 in the Banquet room. This is a time for learning, questions, and connecting in community.

11/24 Fellowship

Gospel Based Discipleship

Fridays, 12:15 pm, online via Zoom

Gospel Based Discipleship is not a formal Bible study. There is a convener but no teacher.  Focusing on the Gospel selection prescribed for the upcoming Sunday, we ask three questions, reading the passage each time.

  1. What word(s), idea(s), or phrase(s) stand out for you?
  2. What is the Gospel saying to you?
  3. What is the Gospel calling you to do?

Sharing our responses, we listen and learn. Members take away their own inspiration from an encounter with Jesus in the company of others who are seeking deeper discipleship.

We meet every Friday at 12:15 pm via Zoom and aim to keep the meeting to 30-35 minutes. Join any week that you can. Access the Zoom link here.

Join the Churchwide Virtual Celebration

The Investiture of Presiding Bishop-elect Sean Rowe

Nov. 2, 2024 (livestreamed)

In this historic and joyful season, we invite you to pray for guidance for our church and our new presiding bishop as he leads us in envisioning the reign of God in our midst. May our celebration unite us as a sacramental community, and may we be filled with new energy to bear witness to God’s work of redemption.

Who: Everyone is invited!

What: The Episcopal Church will officially welcome the Rt. Rev. Sean Rowe as its 28th presiding bishop with a smaller, simpler investiture service aimed at reducing carbon footprint and increasing churchwide virtual participation.

When: Nov. 2, with a prelude featuring a “roll call” of dioceses starting at 9:30 a.m. ET. The service itself starts at 11 a.m. ET.

Where: The service will be livestreamed at www.iam.ec/investiture  and on The Episcopal Church’s Facebook page. A recording will be posted and distributed after the service.

Safeguarding God's Children and Adults

Safeguarding God's Children and Adults is a commitment that all of us share. The Episcopal Church requires ministry leaders and key holders to attend training sessions. Due to the importance of the subject matter, it is strongly recommended to attend an in-person training session for your first time, followed by ongoing learning in the online environment. We understand that this may not always be possible.

To ensure that as many of us as possible are trained, we have two online coordinators available to assist members in the online environment, as well as two certified trainers of Safe Church. Therefore, Reverend Rex McKee will be conducting in-person Safe Church training at Saint Mark's on the following dates and times, in the Community Room:

- October 26

- January 18

- March 1

Sessions will run from 9:00am to 3:00pm.

Your attendance and active participation in these sessions are crucial for the safety and well-being of our community. Please mark your calendars accordingly, and if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to Rev. Tim Kingsley.

Thank you for your dedication to ensuring a safe environment for all members of our community.

Ways to Serve

Consider a Call to Eucharistic Visiting

As our ministry of Eucharistic Visiting grows, we are “calling” for new visitors. Eucharistic visitors are trained in the simple, humble work of taking the consecrated elements from

Sunday worship’s Holy Communion to those who are unable to attend church due to limitations of health and mobility. Please consider ministry for yourself or for someone you might suggest. The training is simple and concise. Initially, new visitors accompany experienced Eucharistic Visitors and then take communion to a congregant(s) once

a month. One of the great blessings of Eucharistic Visiting is the opportunity to get to know the recipient well and share the most sacred of rituals in loving friendship.

Please email Dr. Helen Hansen, Pastoral Care Coordinator, or call her at 612-250-7255 with your questions and potential interest.

Episcopal 101 and 201

If you have wondered about the history, theology, and practices of the Episcopal Church, or if you are considering membership or being confirmed in the church, you will want to consider Episcopal 101 and 201 classes.

An all-star cast of teachers introduce you to what the Episcopal Church understands about the Bible, Jesus, the Sacraments, the Creeds, and so much more. The classes meet every Sunday in the Heritage Room at 9:15 am, between services. The first, Episcopal 101, is more introductory and the second, Episcopal 201, explores some important theological and ethical issues. You can attend as many or few sessions as you'd like.

For more information or to sign up, email Jay Phelan,  jayp@ourcathedral.org. We look forward to learning with you!

Children's Worship

For children 8 and younger. Each Sunday during the 10:30 service, the gospel story will be shared in an age-appropriate format (and that may include crayons!), along with prayer and music.  We will leave the 10:30 worship at the time of the Gradual hymn, just before the Gospel, and return at the time of the Peace. Parents are invited to join in too, but it isn’t necessary.

Knitting Group

Saint Mark’s has had a group of dedicated knitters for many years. We make prayer shawls, scarves, and baby blankets to bless and give to those in need. We welcome new knitters, no matter what your skill level is. We meet on the first and third Tuesday of the month from 10:30 to noon in the library. Please join us! Bless those who serve in the Climate Justice Group and the Stewardship Ministry.

From the Book of Common Prayer: For towns and rural areas

Lord Christ, when you came among us, you proclaimed the kingdom of God in villages, towns, and lonely places: Grant that your presence and power may be known throughout this land. Have mercy upon all of us who live and work in rural areas, and grant that all the people of our nation may give thanks to you for food and drink and all other bodily necessities of life, respect those who labor to produce them, and honor the land and the water from which these good things come. All this we ask in your holy Name.       Amen.
