G9-11 takes the PSAT for many reasons, including to assess their ongoing college preparedness, to prepare for the SAT and ACT, and to learn about their potential to succeed in Advanced Placement coursework. The PSAT also enters juniors into the competition for National Merit Scholarship and into consideration for many other scholarships.
"[AMHS intends to use the] gym for PSAT testing this year. This has been a consistent ask from many stakeholders ... because of the potential that it has to minimize the disruption to instruction school-wide...
That test is completely digital this year and on Tuesday the 10th, we will send notification that all students should bring their charged Chromebooks (if they have one) beginning Wednesday (10/11/23) and for the remainder of the week.
Every student needs to bring a Chromebook and charger beginning 10/11 through the rest of the week in preparation for the Digital Readiness Checks listed below:"
- 9th grade: 11:45 - 12:30 on Wednesday (10/11)
- 10th grade: 11:45 - 12:30 on Thursday (10/12)
- 11th grade: 2:00 - 2:45 on Thursday (10/12)

We were also honored with the 2023 AP Access Award for ensuring AP coursework is equally available to students no matter their backgrounds."

- Check your deadlines and submit applications a few days before in case there are technical difficulties, supplemental essays, etc.
- Remember ... optional means "do it."
- If you are sending ACT / SAT scores, send them 2 weeks in advance of application deadlines to make sure schools receive them in time.

The Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program (SEAP) places high school students in Department of Navy (DoN) laboratories where they take part in real Naval research for eight weeks during the summer.
SEAP gives academically talented sophomores, juniors, and seniors interested in STEM the opportunity to learn about Naval research and technology while receiving first-class mentoring by top scientists and engineers.
SEAP is a competitive program with around 300 placements in more than 38 laboratories around the country in which many participants go on to careers within the DoN. Interns are selected based upon academic achievement, personal statements, recommendations, and career and research interests. Deadline to apply is November 1.

Teen Science Café - Paddle to Paradise
Time to paddle out for our next Teen Science Café!
Our adventure begins bright and early South Carolina Aquarium at 8 a.m., then all aboard our adventure to the Black River Cypress Reserve! We’ll all work together to find our flow, and row, row, row while we kayak through this beautiful ecosystem. Be prepared for a picnic-style lunch (provided by us!) during our trip as we listen to animal songs, sounds and surprises along the way. This area is a native pineland in the South Carolina coastal plain and one of the most biologically diverse regions in North America!
This Teen Science Café is free for all students in 8th-12th grade to register.
