Maximize the Potential!

Dear Friend of CCSD93,

Messages From

Superintendent Hill:

At its October 15 meeting, CCSD93's Boundary Committee formally recommended the boundary concept previously shared with the community. The recommendation includes the retirement of Roy DeShane Elementary School, with its students reassigned among Western Trails, Heritage Lakes and Carol Stream elementary schools, along with additional boundary modifications throughout the district. It also includes adjustments to create more balanced enrollment between Jay Stream and Stratford middle schools.

No final decision has been made. RSP & Associates will present the recommendation to the Board of Education on October 29, with Board action anticipated November 12. Any approved modifications would take effect no earlier than the 2027-28 school year.

Review the full October 16 update, which was sent via text and email to all families earlier this afternoon, for interactive elementary and middle school boundary maps, information about how specific addresses may be affected, next steps and additional resources.

We recognize the significant impact potential boundary modifications may have on students, families and school communities, and we do not take these considerations lightly.

Explorers Week Sparks Discovery Across CCSD93

This week was Explorers Week in CCSD93, a time when students across the district learned about history’s greatest pioneers or made discoveries of their own.

These experiences support the Student Success objectives in CCSD93’s Strategic Plan by helping students build essential skills, explore their passions and purpose, take ownership of their learning and develop an appreciation for diverse perspectives.

One terrific example came from Elsie Johnson’s 4th graders, who explored how some books are mirrors, allowing us to see ourselves in the stories or characters, while others are windows into the lives of people who are different from us. Using award-winning children’s books, students read, discussed and made connections to their own lives and the world around them.

I’m proud of our students for embracing new perspectives and of our educators for creating meaningful opportunities for exploration and discovery!

A Surprise Celebration for Making Attendance a Priority at Carol Stream

Student attendance is crucial to academic success, and CCSD93’s schools have made it a greater focus in recent years. At Carol Stream School, class incentives, grade-level competitions and more frequent family communication have helped reinforce that message. On Wednesday, the school took it a step further with a surprise attendance party!

Toward the end of the day, Principal McCabe announced the celebration over the loudspeaker, recognizing students for showing up, working hard and making attendance a priority. Then came the glow sticks and beats, courtesy of DJ (and Assistant Principal) Carlson, for a fun finish to the school day. Watch the surprise party below!
