In September 2024, more than two-thirds (about 34,000) of the PSAT/NMSQT high scorers were designated Commended Students by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).

AMHS Class of 2024 Commended Students:

Charles Cramer

Bowen Gao

Julia Gulledge

Eva Inman

Wyatt Mahoney

Coltrane Margosian

Burton McCulley

Louisa Mulvey

Chase Sutcliffe

"In recognition of their outstanding ability and potential for academic success in college, NMSC honored these students by sending Letters of Commendation to them through their high schools.

Although Commended Students will not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, some may be candidates for Special Scholarships offered by corporate sponsors (see sponsor list). NMSC will notify those candidates in November 2024." - NMSC Website

It is almost time for the 1st Quarter Ice Cream Party. Thursday, November 9th (Sophomores and Seniors) and Friday, November 10th (Freshmen and Juniors).

As you can imagine, supplying and serving ice cream to every student at the school is quite an undertaking. If you can help serve or send in any supplies, PIE would greatly appreciate the support!

2024 AMHS Career Symposium - February 16

We are in the process of collecting names and contacts for our speakers. We will need approximately 40 professionals with a wide variety of professions. Please send any speaker recommendations and contacts to me as I am currently collecting our list. I always rely on the AMHS parent population as our parents are so talented and are dependable as speakers due to their attachment to the school and students.

Please send me any suggestions with name and email contact to: griffintarah@gmail.com

Thank you for supporting PIE so our teacher and staff appreciation team, Jane Ellen Paraschos '25P and Jennifer Winebrenner '25P, could provide a seasonal treat last week!

Administrative News

"[AMHS] received formal recognition [from CCSD] for every indicator on our Academic Magnet High School SC State Report Card including our Graduation Rate, our Preparing for Student Success Metric, our Academic Achievement, our College and Career Readiness, our School Climate, and our Overall Excellent Rating on the 2022-23 SC State Report Card. Each of these accolades represents a remarkable system wide school success."

"This is a time of year when we begin to spend evenings in the annual recruiting circuit, and my favorite part about speaking with the students, parents, and teachers of prospective students in our community is explaining just why this school is such a special place - with the awards or without them. [Prospective Student Presentation]"

"With the first college application deadlines approaching, our busy counselors asked that I share their gratitude for the many, many, many thoughtful college recommendations that our faculty have written and will write on behalf of our students. Even with a practiced hand and an awesome student subject, we all appreciate the time commitment that these recommendations require."

"...I want to also take a moment to publicly thank Mr. Knauer for the current state of our AMHS athletic department including communicating so reliably and positively about our special Raptor athletic teams and student athletes."

- Mr. Perlmutter

Raptor Athletic Booster Club is heading up an Inaugural Golf Tournament on Feb. 5 at the Links at Stono Ferry. We are seeking 10 athlete parents from AM + SOA to join the leadership committee and help put on the event to raise critical funds for our athletes.

Let's be honest, we only have a few more years left to actively support our children's school needs before college. Picture yourself as a kindergarten parent and jump in to help! We promise it will be rewarding and fun!

Did you know Booster funds the end of year sports banquet, senior posters for all athletes, and funds gaps that occur with sports team needs?

To join the Leadership Committee, reply to this email or contact Kat Taylor @ Taylor1351@gmail.com today! Raptor Athletics thanks you in advance for your support of the Golf Tournament in any form, small or big!

P.S. Hold the date for a fun event on Nov 8 at Commonhouse Aleworks! More to come!

We need concession volunteers for the last home football game! 10/27 (Senior Night)
