10/29 Board Mtg. Recap

Maximize the Potential!

Dear Friend of CCSD93,

Messages From

Superintendent Hill:

Today, the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) released its annual School Report Cards for every Illinois public school, including our schools. These reports share data from the 2025-26 school year, including student achievement, academic growth, attendance and more.

This year, ISBE introduced Profiles of Performance, a new school accountability system based on academic growth and proficiency alongside measures such as attendance, English learner progress and climate survey participation. Schools receive one of five designations:

  • Exemplary: The highest level of performance.
  • Approaching Exemplary: Strong performance approaching the highest level.
  • Commendable: Performance generally within the state’s typical range.
  • Developing: Performance indicating a greater need for improvement.
  • Comprehensive: Low performance indicating a need for substantial improvement & support.

I’m pleased to share that Cloverdale, Elsie Johnson, Roy DeShane and Western Trails earned Approaching Exemplary designations! Carol Stream, Heritage Lakes, Jay Stream and Stratford received Commendable designations!

Note: Preschools, including the Early Childhood Center, do not receive designations.

These results recognize the ongoing efforts of our students, staff and families while helping us identify strengths to build on and areas where students need more support. Both are essential to our mission of maximizing the academic, social and emotional potential of each student. Learn more about Illinois’ updated school accountability system here.

CCSD93 Students Continue to Exceed Academic Projections

State designations provide one perspective on school performance. CCSD93 also monitors progress through our 2023-2028 Strategic Plan, which includes nine Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) across three priorities: Student Success, Engaged Employees and Operational Excellence.

Within Student Success, we use Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) and iReady data to compare students’ academic growth and proficiency with statistically projected performance. Our academic growth indicator measures how students perform compared with personalized projections based on their prior assessment results, using IAR data for grades 3-8 and iReady data for grades 1-8. In 2025-26, 85% of students demonstrated expected or higher-than-expected growth, meeting our benchmark of more than 84%.

Students also exceeded academic proficiency projections, which measure performance against grade-level standards. Our proficiency indicator combines English language arts (ELA) and math IAR results for grades 3-8, including only students who attended CCSD93 the previous school year so we can compare projected and actual performance. The academic proficiency rate reached 49%, surpassing the projection of 48%.

While our students' continued academic progress is cause for celebration, we recognize that there is still much room for improvement. Explore our progress at www.ccsd93.com/strategicdashboard. Please Practice Halloween Safety on 10/31

Bloomingdale, Carol Stream and Hanover Park will hold trick-or-treating hours from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 31.

If your family will be trick-or-treating, I encourage you to review these safety tips from Safe Kids Worldwide, especially:

  • Cross safely: Use corners and crosswalks, look both ways and put devices away. Never cross between parked cars.
  • Plan for supervision: Children under 12 should trick-or-treat with an adult. Older children going without adults should stay in groups in familiar, well-lit areas.
  • Be visible: Carry flashlights or glow sticks and add reflective tape to costumes and bags so drivers can more easily see you.

Drivers, please slow down, put distractions away and watch carefully for children, especially at intersections and when entering or exiting driveways. Thank you for helping keep Halloween safe and enjoyable for everyone!

Please review the information below for more from CCSD93 and our partners, including today's Halloween Highlights, and have a terrific weekend!

Sincerely,

Dr. David H. Hill

CCSD93 Band Students Shine at First Concerts of the Year

CCSD93 band students kicked off this year’s concert season with performances at Jay Stream on Tuesday and Stratford on Wednesday! Each concert featured the school’s 6th grade, 7th grade and jazz bands, giving students an opportunity to share their musical progress with an audience excited to celebrate their hard work.

Congratulations to our student musicians on a wonderful start to the concert season! Next up, both schools’ 8th grade bands will perform at Glenbard North on Wednesday, November 4.

Western Trails 3rd Graders Put Math Into Play

Western Trails 3rd graders recently put their math skills into play by creating their own mini golf courses! As part of their measurement unit, students planned their courses, measured area and built putting greens before taking a swing at their classmates’ courses. They also practiced addition by tallying their golf scores. This hands-on activity brought the district’s new math curriculum resources to life, helping students apply key grade-level learning standards for understanding and measuring area!

Roy DeShane Families Connect Over Bingo

Roy DeShane students and families had a great time at PTA Family Bingo Night last week! Our PTAs play an important role in creating fun opportunities for families to connect. Special thanks to the Roy DeShane PTA for hosting this one!

Jay Stream 7th Graders Start the School Day on a High Note

Yesterday morning, 7th graders in Jay Stream’s music class welcomed peers to school with performances of Bobby Pickett’s “Monster Mash” and P!nk’s “What About Us” in the main entrance hallway!

In just a short time, they’ve learned the basics of guitar, bass, drums and keyboard while exploring rhythm, melody and chords. By making music together, they’ve honed their collaboration and performance skills while growing more confident and creative as musicians. They were so excited about their progress that they asked for an opportunity to perform for their peers, and they delivered. Check out one of their songs here. Rock on, Jayhawks!
