An academic bilingual community fostering global citizenship
Dear Park Spanish Immersion Elementary School Community,

It's been an exciting week around our school! Last Friday, our third and fifth graders enjoyed an amazing concert at school by Border Crossing . Our students also enjoyed our fall "fiestas" last Friday! Thank you for supporting our PTO-sponsored Leer-a-tón, which ended on Monday. Today, our kindergarten students are venturing to Westwood Nature Center.

It was great fun to open our doors to our larger community during the SLP Parade of Schools last Saturday! Several former Cedar Manor staff members came to see our new home, and they were very excited about the wonderful learning spaces for our students. See below for more information and some photos.

As a reminder, we do not have school tomorrow due to a Professional Development Day for Staff. Staff members will engage in activities around collaboration and culturally responsive pedagogy.

Have a great week, and keep reading!

From Our School Counselor, Anne Moore
October is  National Bully Prevention Month . School Counselor, Anne Moore, has been teaching counseling lessons with each class about how to identify bullying behaviors and how to be an Upstander. An Upstander is someone who stands up for others and stops bullying when it happens. Throughout the month, PSI staff have been on the lookout for student Upstanders. Students who have been caught being an Upstander at school will be recognized for their efforts.

Wednesday, October 23rd we celebrated Upstander Day where students and staff were encouraged to wear orange to show we stand together against bullying and are united for kindness, acceptance and inclusion.

From PTO... Host an Amity Intern this Spring Semester!

Application to Host Now Open! Amity Intern - Spring of 2020.
Each year PSI welcomes eight Amity Interns from Spanish speaking countries who assist our teachers in the K-5 classrooms. These interns are either pursuing or have recently completed a college degree with an education focus, and are between the ages of 20-30 years old. Amity interns live with PSI host families one semester allowing both an opportunity for greater language learning and cultural exchange. Please consider hosting an Amity Intern for a semester. A unique and wonderful experience can benefit your entire family. Plus, it's a great way to give back to the students, staff and entire community. Want more info? Please email us at  psiamity@gmail.com .
Ready to sign up? Go to PSIparents.com, click Get Involved and select Amity Intern to find the Host Family application. Fill yours out today!
Thanks for considering this amazing opportunity!
