Chain Drug Committee members -

As you know, the Department of Toxic Substances Control is holding a virtual public workshop on November 9 from 10am-noon PST to hear from stakeholders regarding California’s potential adoption of the US EPA’s Pharmaceutical Rule. CRA has had multiple discussions with DTSC regarding the need for California to conform with federal regulations with respect to the management of empty warfarin containers. DTSC plans to do so via an expedited rulemaking in November.

We are holding a call on Monday, 10/31 at 11am PDT to prep for the workshop. The zoom details are below - we encourage you to participate. 

Now that the warfarin provisions are being adopted, DTSC is interested in hearing from retailers and other stakeholders regarding adoption of the Pharmaceutical Rule more broadly. CRA strongly encourages interested Chain Drug Committee members to participate in the workshop on November 9, as this will inform the potential rulemaking. Please see below for details. The Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) invites you to attend our virtual workshop on November, 9, 2022. The topic for this workshop will be DTSC’s evaluation of U.S. EPA standards for hazardous waste pharmaceuticals for potential adoption in California.

On August 21, 2019, U.S. EPA’s Management Standards for Hazardous Waste Pharmaceuticals and Amendment to the P075 Listing for Nicotine Rule (Pharmaceuticals Rule) went into effect. The rule sets forth new regulations for healthcare facilities and reverse distributors managing pharmaceuticals that are hazardous waste. The objectives of the upcoming workshop are to provide an overview of the Pharmaceuticals Rule, discuss DTSC’s evaluation of the rule, and receive comments from the public on possible adoption in California.
