Lamentations 3:19-26
The thought of my affliction and my homelessness
is wormwood and gall!
My soul continually thinks of it
and is bowed down within me.
But this I call to mind,
and therefore I have hope:
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
"The Lord is my portion," says my soul,
"therefore I will hope in him."
The Lord is good to those who wait for him,
to the soul that seeks him.
It is good that one should wait quietly
for the salvation of the Lord.

10/4 Homelessness and Hope

Good Day!, I do not believe in coincidences, after conversion I see only God Incidents. Such is the subject today. Today Fox News was running this story and it made me think. "Business Insider recently released its list of the 50 most miserable cities in America - with cities in California (10), New Jersey (9), and Florida (6), accounting for half the list."
Have you ever talked to a homeless person? While many are on drugs and alcohol etc. many have interesting stories to tell and these stories may reflect back on us as a society and as Christians.

Originally, in the Great Depression, the Churches distributed welfare. It showed that they cared and they cared enough not to distribute bad things to people.  Today it is the government. The government consists of politicians who only care that they have the appearance of caring. Many things slip through the uncaring cracks. However, in all fairness, there was no protest by the Churches when welfare was easily given up by them to government.

My point and challenge to us is this:
1. Your church should have a good budget for welfare. If we follow Jewish tradition, it should be about 33% since they did it totally every third year. Does your church? How self centered is your Churches budget? What does that say to you?
2. Look at the laws our politicians make. Do they make it harder for a poor person to survive? For instance if a poor person buys an old car with all the new requirements, can he really afford to maintain it or will he or she have to drive around with engine lights on etc. etc.

I believe I will have more to say as time goes on, but for today my prayer is this:

Dear Father God,

Help us to examine territory that the church has given up on and the affects upon society and which type of thinking we should have as Christians to serve all your people.

In Jesus Holy Name,
     AMEN!
