Dear Friend of CCSD93,
2nd Annual CCSD93 Explorers Week Next Week!
Next week CCSD93 will celebrate its 2nd annual Explorers Week! Students from all grade levels at all schools will participate in hands-on lessons where they learn about history's greatest explorers or take on exploration themselves!

As I shared in March 2017, CCSD93 added Explorers Week to our calendar thanks to the efforts of Mrs. Verdun's 7th grade ELA/Humanities class at Stratford Middle School, who petitioned the Board of Education through persuasive writings and videos to rename Columbus Day. The Board elected not to rename the holiday. Instead they created a whole week dedicated to explorers of all kinds, called Explorers Week, and scheduled it for the week of Columbus Day.
CCSD93 Educators Continue Learning During Teacher Institute Day
While our students will not be in class on Tuesday, October 9, our educators will be hard at work utilizing the time to learn new methods, develop curricular items, and in some cases hear from outside experts at Teacher Institute Day. We believe strongly that these type of professional development opportunities are essential for our terrific educators to provide the very best education to our students.
Nominate a CCSD93 Principal for a Golden Apple Leadership Award!
CCSD93 is proud of our effective, passionate educators who provide a relevant education to each CCSD93 student and challenge them to grow, learn, and succeed to the best of their abilities each day.

Though their daily efforts often go unheralded, the Golden Apple Awards are a terrific way to publicly recognize great teachers. Unfortunately for CCSD93, this year Golden Apple is only accepting nominations for high school teachers. However, they are accepting nominations of principals for the Stanley C. Golder Leadership Award from every level of education. If you feel strongly about one of CCSD93's outstanding principals and would like to celebrate their dedication to their school, students, and staff, I invite you to nominate them for the for the Stanley C. Golder Leadership Award here!

Winners will be recognized on PBS, win a scholarship for professional development, and receive funds to use on a school project.
Congratulations to Robin Jones for Earning
CCSD93 Personalized Education Certificate!
I congratulate Heritage Lakes 4th Grade Teacher Robin Jones for becoming just the 5th CCSD93 staff member to earn her Personalized Education Certificate!

She has devoted a tremendous amount of time and effort into delving into professional learning opportunities that have helped empower her to become an even stronger educator equipped to teach to each of her student's unique learning styles and needs. Congratulations Robin! Here she is receiving her award from me, Assistant Superintendent for Teaching, Learning & Innovation Dr. Marie Hoffmann, and Heritage Lakes Principal Bob Yelaska. CCSD93 Student/Parent/Teacher Conference
Sign-Up Now Through 11/16
This year across CCSD93, Student/Parent/Teacher Conferences will incorporate the student voice to become Student/Parent/Teacher Conferences, which students are expected to attend with their parents. In the coming weeks, more info will be sent from your child's school on exactly what the new conference format will look like.

CCSD93 Student/Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held Monday and Tuesday, November 19 and 20. This is a great opportunity for parents to connect with their child and their child's teacher about their child's education!

CCSD93's schools will once again offer online scheduling of Student/Parent/Teacher Conferences through PTC Wizard. All parents will need to register a new account this year, even if you had one for last school year. You can sign up for conferences anytime between now and Friday, November 16 at noon.

Visit www.ccsd93.com/PTC for more details.
