West Palm Beach, Fla - July 29, 2022 - Following the fatal shooting of 41-year-old Lashun Rogers, her family continues to search for answers. According to the Orange and Osceola Counties State Attorney’s Office, Rogers was celebrating the Memorial Day weekend at her apartment complex Jernigan Gardens in Orlando, Fl when she was confronted by an intoxicated Lakrisha Isaac, 31, over a social media post.

During the argument, Isaac struck the victim, who hit back. The argument turned deadly when Isaac’s 10-year-old daughter pulled a gun from her mother’s bag and then shot the victim twice, killing her.

According to the Orange County Jail’s website, 31-year-old Lakrisha Isaac was arrested and charged with manslaughter by culpable negligence, child neglect, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and aggravated assault with a firearm. Her 10-year-old daughter is under the supervision of the Florida Department of Children and Families.

“The owners of Jernigan Gardens are responsible for providing adequate security to their grounds and for their tenants to ensure their safety and wellbeing from known risks of criminal activity,” said Jennifer A. Dinetz, plaintiff attorney for the victim’s family.

“This community has experienced shootings and violent crimes before another Ms. Rogers’ was taken. Had the owners made this complex and Ms. Rogers’ home reasonably safe, this tragedy could have been prevented and Lashun would be with her daughter and grandchild today,” Dinetz continued.

Prior to its purchase by Jernigan Gardens in 2020, investment firm Millennia Companies financed a $72 million renovation of the 256-unit apartment complex. Millennia's proposal promised tenants a higher quality of living with luxury amenities including an extended playground, enhanced security features, and significant upgrades to the heating, cooling, mechanical, and electrical systems.
