Opening Prayer (in unison)
God of possibilities, God of light and love, we thank you for this time set aside
for us to celebrate and contemplate our lives. Please give us a sense of wonder
and hope as we move further into this new year and this new reality. We find truth
and healing in the gospel message and we are getting on board! Please be with is
in a time of silent listening and prayer...

Lord’s Prayer
Our Father* who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy
will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and
forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory
forever. Amen.

Hymn We Limit Not the Truth of God NCH #316
We limit not the truth of God to our poor reach of mind,
to notions of our day and place, crude, partial, and confined;
No, let a new and better hope with in our hearts be stirred:
O God, grant yet more light and truth to break forth from your Word.
Who dares to bind to one’s own sense the oracles of heaven,
for all the nations, tongues, and climes and all the ages given?
That universe, how much unknown! that ocean unexplored!
O God, grant yet more light and truth to break forth from your Word.
Eternal God, Incarnate Word, Spirit of flame and dove:
enlarge, expand all living souls to comprehend your love;
And helps all to seek your will with wiser powers conferred:
O God, grant yet more light and truth to break forth from your Word.

Scripture Reading: Mark 1:14-20 Deacon, Nancy Hansberry
Now after John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of
God, and saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent,
and believe in the good news.’
As Jesus passed along the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew
casting a net into the lake—for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, ‘Follow
me and I will make you fish for people.’ And immediately they left their nets and followed
him. As he went a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John, who
were in their boat mending the nets. Immediately he called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men, and followed him.
