Welcoming Covenant
In the name of God and Jesus Christ, the Hingham Congregational Church
welcomes all who seek to know and worship God, and invites everyone to join
in our mission through participation and leadership of the congregation.
As a community of faith, we take seriously the biblical call to love God and our
neighbors as ourselves, and recognize that, although we are many members,
we are one.
❖ We celebrate the uniqueness of everyone.
❖ We rejoice in our diversity of views and understandings of our shared faith.
❖ We affirm relationships based on love, commitment, and mutual respect.
❖ As is stated in our by-laws, we strive for righteousness, justice and peace.
It is with this spirit and the love of God that we openly welcome all persons,
inclusive of every race, ethnicity, class, age, gender, physical or mental ability,
sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression, and inclusive of any
others, to journey with us as we move forward with the work of this church in the
world.

Prayer and Lord’s Prayer
God of transformation and new life, as the days get longer, our hearts swell with hope. As the sun shines anew into our world, let the warmth of your grace fill us and give us courage. We gather today to celebrate the good news you have given us all through Christ, Help us, we pray, to be ambassadors of the gospel in the world though acts of compassion and words of justice. Please continue to guide us through this Lenten season as we look to the light of Easter morning...
(silent prayer)
Our Father* who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever, Amen.
*Please feel free to pray as you wish. We respect tradition — and we welcome images
of the Divine that are diverse and inclusive.

O Love, How Vast, How Flowing Free

O Love, how vast, how flowing free, O Love how
filled with ecstasy, That God a human
form should take, and mortal be for mortals' sake.
Not as an angel visiting, nor form ce-
lestial orbiting, But born in flesh God
chose to be, robed in our own humanity.
For us baptized, and fasting long, for us was
tempted by the wrong, For us the pangs of
hunger knew; for us the Tempter over threw.
Then for God's boundless love sing praise
through end-less ages, count-less days;
By Love we have been reconciled:
salvation gained through God's own Child.

From Death to Life
You were dead through the trespasses and sins in which you once lived, following the course of this world, following the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work among those who are disobedient. All of us once lived among them in the passions of our flesh, following the desires of flesh and senses, and we were by nature children of wrath, like everyone else. But God, who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which he loved us even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness towards us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God— not the result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life.
