Welcoming Covenant
In the name of God and Jesus Christ, the Hingham Congregational Church
welcomes all who seek to know and worship God, and invites everyone to join
in our mission through participation and leadership of the congregation.
As a community of faith, we take seriously the biblical call to love God and our
neighbors as ourselves, and recognize that, although we are many members,
we are one.
❖ We celebrate the uniqueness of everyone.
❖ We rejoice in our diversity of views and understandings of our shared faith.
❖ We affirm relationships based on love, commitment, and mutual respect.
❖ As is stated in our by-laws, we strive for righteousness, justice and peace.
It is with this spirit and the love of God that we openly welcome all persons,
inclusive of every race, ethnicity, class, age, gender, physical or mental ability,
sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression, and inclusive of any
others, to journey with us as we move forward with the work of this church in the
world.

Opening Prayer and Lord’s Prayer
Mysterious Creator, Guide Deep Within, March Wind in our Imaginations, we feel you calling to us, shining light for us, and urging us forward on our Lenten journey. Please strengthen and deepen our faith so that we might become more authentic followers of Christ and doers of your Word. We ask that you would open our minds and hearts this morning as we listen and pray and sing together...
(silent prayer)
Our Father* who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever, Amen.
*Please feel free to pray as you wish. We respect tradition — and we welcome images
of the Divine that are diverse and inclusive.

Just As I Am

Todd Swavey, tenor

Just as I am, without one plea but that your
blood was shed for me, And that you called in
viting me, O Lamb of God, I come, I come!
Just as I am, though tossed about with many a
conflict, many a doubt, Fightings and fears with
in, without, O lamb of God, I come, I come!
Just as I am, you will receive, will welcome,
pardon, cleanse, relieve; Because your promise
I believe, O Lamb of God, I come, I come!
Just as I am, your love unknown has broken
every barrier down; Now to be yours, and
yours a lone, O Lamb of God, I come, I come!

A New Covenant
The days are surely coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah. It will not be like the covenant that I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt—a covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, says the Lord. But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. No longer shall they teach one another, or say to each other, ‘Know the Lord’, for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, says the Lord; for I will forgive their iniquity, and remember their sin no more.

The Corrymeela Community·
The world needs community like never before.
In that spirit, we offer this prayer.
God of the grain that falls to earth,
God of the fruit it bears:
you have created us to create life,
even as we lose it;
you have given us a gift of love
that grows the more we share it.
May we, as single grains of life,
not hold our love within,
but cast it wide
and lose ourselves
so new life can begin.
Amen.
