10 REASONS TO LOVE YOUR LIBRARY | |
|
February is Library Lovers’ Month! Here are our top 10 reasons to love Redwood City Public Library - what are yours? Let us know by sending us a love letter through the Library Foundation!
-
The Makerspace. Equipped with 3D printers, sewing and embroidery machines, laser cutters, and Cricut makers, the Downtown Library’s Makerspace is the perfect place to make, create, and collaborate! From Art Salon to Crafty Wednesdays, we’re proud to host Makerspace programs for all ages every day of the week.
-
Branch libraries. In addition to the Downtown Library, be sure to visit our other locations. You might find a reading nook in the cozy Schaberg Branch Library or learn about local marine life in the Redwood Shores Branch Library’s Environmental Interpretive Center!
-
Passes. Check out a parks pass to waive vehicle entry fees at eligible county and state parks to experience the natural wonders, and snag free or discounted tickets to local museums, science centers, zoos and other attractions through the Discover & Go program.
-
Online entertainment. Enjoy thousands of e-books, periodicals, and even TV shows, films, and music at home with services like Hoopla, Libby, Kanopy, and The Shelf, which provides premium arts & entertainment content in Spanish - from your favorite telenovelas to acclaimed operas.
-
Energy Toolkits. While at home, check to ensure you’re saving on utilities (and saving the planet!) with a Home Energy and Water Saving Toolkit. Stocked with tools that can test the efficiency of your appliances, the kits can be used in any kind of residence, including RVs, apartments, and single family homes, whether rented or owned.
-
Seed Library. Beautify your space with plants grown from seeds in our Seed Library and check out our gardening programs for tips from experts! And as your garden grows, show your appreciation for pollinators like the RCPL bees.
-
Tech (and tech help). Our technology services include free access to WiFi, library computers, laptops, chargers, and printers in our building, as well as kids’ iPads and WiFi hotspots that are available for checkout. For assistance, stop by Drop-In Tech Help, every Wednesday from 10am-12pm in the Makerspace!
-
Career development. Job seekers and entrepreneurs can grow their skills, level up their resumes, and build their business with a vast collection of virtual resources as well as in-person office hours provided by NOVAWorks every Monday afternoon!
-
Project READ. Our literacy program provides adults, children, and families with free lessons focused on reading, writing and critical thinking skills provided by generous volunteer tutors.
-
Books, of course! This list wouldn’t be complete without a shoutout to books! Browse our catalog, stop by our lobby displays, and check out our booklists or Next Read service to get great recommendations straight from your friendly neighborhood librarians 🙂
