HAPPY OCTOBER!

It’s Fall: football, pumpkins, colorful leaves, Halloween.
And a time when there’s lots of interviewing now before the very brief winter holiday lull.

Are you ready? And are you ready for video-based interviews, done over the web? See the article below for the latest.

Secrets to Doing Great Video Interviews
Video interviewing: what’s new? This is a topic we’ve written about before, but as you can imagine, it continues to change. And grow.

There are the interviewers who set a time to talk with you via Zoom or Skype or similar, very convenient for all parties.

Then there are the systems that are automated: They show you a question, give you a few minutes to think about your answer, give you a moment to record, a moment to make edits, and then store them in the Cloud for all team members to see at a time that works for them.

Somewhat different, HireVue’s artificial intelligence (AI) gives it special abilities to not only record, but it evaluates tone of voice, pauses, eye contact, if the person is reciting something memorized versus begin spontaneous, and other factors. It then scores each candidate into one of three "buckets" -- top one third, middle one third, bottom one third. And the company is proud of how its algorithms neutralize bias based on gender or other factors.

For more about great visuals during a video interview, and other aspects of being "on camera", see Joanne’s latest blog for two pages full of tips. Print it out or bookmark the link, for future reference.

This month’s Tip from Joanne:
Yes, you CAN add color , bolding, and italics
to your LinkedIn profile

Until now, it’s been impossible to be anything but "vanilla" on LinkedIn. Meaning, it was impossible to add bolding, italic, or color to the text in your profile. The most you could hope for, for emphasis, was using ALL CAPS...not the best option.

But you can add bolding and italics, just not within LinkedIn’s own editor. Here’s how:
First, as far as color, go to my profile on LinkedIn, to the end of my About section. See those colorful widgets there? You can copy any of those into your LinkedIn profile as you’re editing it. So instead of very plain hyphens or asterisks as bullets, you can use the yellow diamonds or the blue boxes. Jazz up your profile’s visuals! (Tip: Don’t use too many different widgets. Less is more.)

To do italics or bold or both, check the instructions at this link thanks to Ahmad Imam.
