Welcome to Fairfield Police Department

You’ve heard his name, you’ve seen his journey, now learn more about the youngest officer at Fairfield PD - and how he went from Fairfield youth, to Fairfield Community Services Officer (CSO), to Officer during our recent promotion and new employee welcoming ceremony.

Officer Balhotra was born and raised in Fairfield, CA, and has always wanted to be a Police Officer. “As I got older,” he says, “I realized the true meaning of being a Police Officer and how it ties hand in hand with my Sikhi faith.” He then set about making his dream a reality.

At the age of 15, he became a Cadet with the Solano Sheriff’s Office and achieved the rank of Cadet Sergeant. At the age of 19, he became a Community Service Officer for Fairfield PD in the Patrol Division in 2021, and was also appointed as an field training officer for incoming CSOs.

In 2022, he joined the Traffic Unit before going on to attend the Sacramento Police Academy and graduating at the age of 20, making him the youngest recruit to graduate.

Of his plans, Officer Balhotra says, “I enjoy working for the City of Fairfield, and want to represent my culture and my community. I am proud to wear my articles of faith while serving this community.”

Officer Balhotra is not only the first turbaned Sikh Officer in Fairfield, but is also the first in all of Solano County. “I hope to be a inspiration to other young men and women to follow their dreams,” he shares.

When not working, he enjoys going off-roading in his Jeep, taking photos, hanging out at the beach with his fiancée.

Welcome to your new role, Officer Balhotra. We expect great things of you.

Rest in Peace, Officer Limneos

Most of you by now probably have heard that our dad (John Limneos)

Unexpectedly died last Sunday night after a wonderful day with some of his family.

I guess a nicer way to say it, is to say that dad “went home to be with the Lord.” How do I know this you might ask? I know this because 2nd Corinthians 5:8 tells us that for the believer, “to be absent from the body is to be present with the lord.

Also, in Psalm 103:13 it says,” as a father, has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.“

And I believe with all my heart that my dad feared the Lord Jesus Christ, and he had compassion on him, as dad‘s passing was quick and peaceful. In fact, I believe if dad could’ve chosen a day, and a way to go, this probably would’ve been it.

Much of dad‘s family and friends were at a baby shower for Massiel and Matt earlier that day. Dad was so excited to celebrate the upcoming birth of his most recent great grandchild. He was able to celebrate with his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. He took such joy from watching all the young cousins run around and play. He also got to talk with and visit his sister, and all three of her daughters and many friends. We laughed and told stories, and played games and just had a great day. After the party, dad drove mom back home, and as they were getting ready for bed, he told her “it really was a great day today wasn’t it?” mom said, “it sure was, but I’m really tired.” Dad (always wanting to care for mom) said, “go to bed. I’ll be in to tuck you in in a little bit.” Mom waited awhile and then got back up to check on him and found him sitting at the kitchen table slumped over. 911 was called , and by the time Cindy and I got there police, fire, and medics were on scene and doing CPR. All the agencies did a great job but it was dad‘s time.

Now, you might say how on earth was this good? Well, if you know our dad, you know he did NOT want to die in the hospital. When it was his time to go, he wanted to be in his own home.

The Lord had compassion on him and allowed that. He also had compassion on dad in that, it was quick and peaceful, and he was able to spend the day with family and friends. And the best part is, he is now in a place where there is, no pain, sorrow, or tears! He’s with Jesus!

Like all of us, dad wasn’t perfect, but he was a hero to us. The love he demonstrated for his family, friends, and ultimately his Lord was incredible! He will be SO dearly missed, but I’m confident I will see him again in glory.

Many of you have asked about a service. We would ask that you patiently bear with us as we continue to work out the details. What we do know so far is that there will be a service on October 17th at the Sacramento National Cemetery in Dixon. I will let you know of the details as they become available to me.

Thank you Dad for being an amazing father and teaching us so much. We love you and look forward to seeing you again soon.

Rest Peacefully, K-9 Diesel

On Thursday, K-9 Officer Gill, his family and all of the West Sacramento PD family unexpectedly had to say goodbye to our beloved retired WSPD K-9 Diesel.

Diesel had labored breathing while he was lying next to the K9 patrol car, at home with the Gill family where he’d been enjoying his retirement. Officer Gill rushed him to VCA, however, he unfortunately passed away on the car ride there.

K-9 Diesel was born May 11, 2011 in Slovakia and eventually made his way to Kreative Kennels in Oakdale, CA. In February 2014, Officer Gill picked Diesel up in the middle of the night during a massive rain storm. He was Diesel #4 as the previous three had failed testing. Officer Gill had decided if he didn’t pass, it would be time to choose a different dog name.

Diesel and Officer Gill successfully completed Basic K-9 Handler school, and Diesel patrolled the streets of West Sacramento with Officer Gill from May 2014 until his retirement in June of 2020. Diesel made sure Officer Gill came home safely to his family every shift, and he refused to lie down in the back of the K9 car until they were on the freeway headed home. Without a doubt, he made our City a safer place to live and work. Diesel is responsible for numerous apprehensions and hundreds of peaceful suspect surrenders during his career. Diesel was an excellent Patrol K-9, SWAT K-9, and a well decorated trial dog.

Diesel's greatest attribute was that he was a phenomenal family pet. While working and in retirement, Diesel's happy place was lying by the pool watching Officer Gill’s kids swim as he chewed on his Kong toy. Diesel would do the occasional lap around the pool to check on everyone, and then return to his carpet by the pool stairs. He loved being around people, and people loved him.

In June of 2020 Diesel retired, and became a big brother to Officer Gill’s current partner, K-9 Cash. Diesel welcomed Cash to the family with open paws, but it was an adjustment to see the K9 car leave the house without him in it. Diesel would wait in the garage until they got home, and then immediately get up and grab his Kong toy when the garage opened. Diesel did not go anywhere without that toy.

Officer Gill says: "The family and I are going to miss you Diesel Buddy, but you will never be forgotten. Coming home from work will never be the same without you waiting in the garage for me. I would give anything just to have you follow me around the house just one more time...Until we meet again Partner!!!!

Rest in Peace Diesel Buddy!" - K9 Officer Dan Gill

Thank you to K-9 Diesel for his fearless service to our City. Please keep the Gill family in your thoughts during this difficult time.

Linda Kathryn Coffer

Linda Kathryn Coffer was born on February 13, 1950, in Springfield, MA.

She was part of a military family and lived in Vacaville while in elementary and

junior high schools — a block and a half from the man she would eventually marry — then left for high school and college in Georgia and finally returned to Solano County as a young adult.

She began work as a clerk in the Solano County courts in the early 1970s. She went to law school at night while continuing to work as a courtroom clerk, passed the bar and began a thirty-two year career as a prosecutor in the Solano County District Attorney’s Office. There she tried murder and sexual assault cases and many other felonies. Sofia M.

Water Polo – Senior

Captain – #22 – Defensive Set

Sofia M. is our student athlete of the week. She has had a great start to the 2023 Water Polo season. The team is currently 3-0 to start. Sofia is a captain and a key staple to the defense and will score goals when needed. She is a 4 year varsity water polo player, 4 years of swim, and 1 year of hoops. Sofia is a 4.0 student who plans on going into nursing school at a 4 year university.

Sofia’s comments:

“Awesome! I am honored to have been chosen for this award. Being a student athlete is being the best at your craft. I would like to thank all my coaches and teammates for always showing support and a special shout out to my parents!”

Coach’s comments:

“Sofia is a pleasure to coach in both swimming and water polo. She is a leader in and out of the pool, setting a positive example for all of our underclassmen. During water polo games, Sofia helps us by shutting down the best player on the opposing team, running our offense as the point, and catching the opposition off guard with great outside shooting. Her excellent work ethic and attention to detail are instrumental to our team success.”

Yin's McDonald's

VACAVILLE, Calif. (KGO) -- You may not heard of the name CC Yin, but chances are, you've been to one of his restaurants. The Vacaville resident runs a fast-food empire with 30 McDonald's branches in Northern California, 16 in Solano County. Now, in addition to Happy Meals, he's serving up PPE.

Millions of surgical masks, goggles, gowns, face shields and hand sanitizers are a gift from Yin's non-profit to frontline workers in the Bay Area and nationwide in Vacaville, Vallejo, Fairfield, Suisun City, Sacramento and even Seattle and New York.

The 83-year old says his desire to give back stems from his gratitude for the opportunities that America has given him.

Born in China, he fled to Taiwan during World War II and immigrated to the U.S. in the 60's, with $100 in his pocket. Yin worked as an engineer until getting laid off at age 48. That's when he stumbled upon a chance to buy a failing McDonald's in Oakland.

But getting the franchise was a challenge. Yin says, "McDonald's didn't want me because I was not qualified. I was not good at speaking English. And so the court says 'McDonald's, you cannot judge the immigrant as your standard. The guy might be good for you. So give him a chance and tell me he's no good.'"

But as it turns out, he was good. A year later, Yin turned that branch profitable for the first time. And more McDonald's followed.

The entrepreneur says the key to success was and still is, working with local organizations and supporting the community. Last year, when Yin's Vallejo branch had a grand re-opening, he donated to the local Humane Society. Vallejo Mayor Bob Sampayan was at the ribbon cutting.

"He's provided employment for our local youth, scholarships through his foundation for college-bound seniors, and he's just been nothing but generous to our community in times of need, " Sampayan said.

The community is often invited to Yin's thriving Yin Ranch in Vacaville. It's his home, but it's also a conference center, a venue for weddings, Lunar New Year and an amusement park complete with a McDonald's racetrack.

Here, Yin often hosts events for his non-partisan APAPA organization, Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs. With 30 chapters across the country, its mission is to increase Asian American civic engagement and political leadership. '

California State Treasurer says APAPA's support has been instrumental "for being leaders in our community and giving folks like me the opportunity to network, to be educated and to grow as leaders."

Yin may have written his own rags to riches story through the Golden Arches, but lives by his golden rule. "America taught me how to give back, how to work with community. Everybody should step up, everybody should share, good or bad."
