Do you like to do things “as they come” or do you have your “to-do” lists? Do you hate routines or are does it make you crazy when the day does not go as planned? Do you have several color coded calendars telling you what will happen next month on a Tuesday or do you keep you options open? Or are you somewhere in-between?
We view the world though our preferences - our habitual patterns of thinking we learned from our parents or later developed based on what worked for us. Many times they are so ingrained that we don’t see then anymore. It is not a problem until they are not serving us or until we run into somebody on the other side of the spectrum of that habit. Then we may clash and create a conflict with loved ones.
Imagine you like to have your options open and you run into somebody who needs a schedule. Most likely you view them as boring, rigid or at least not adventurous. What if you step in their shoes? They probably view you are somewhat unreliable or not a team player. It might explain why your kids, friends or co-workers drive you crazy. If you are on one side of the spectrum and they on the other, it is difficult to understand. Their behavior might seem difficult, strange and exasperating.
What if you can see that these are only “preferences” - habitual patterns of thinking about the world? What might be possible if you are able to take these “glasses”on and off as you please? How would you relate to others? How might that change the experience of your life?
This short survey will give you an insight into your preferences. When you are aware of which glasses you wear - you have a choice. And that’s the first step to freedom and fun!
