Welcome to the 1000 Mile Challenge
Spring Edition 2017!!
Your mission this year is to improve your life and health while meeting new people, discovering new places, and supporting worthy causes.
Note: The Challenge is
a race or competition and there is no 1st place winner. We are a group of people dedicated to achieving common goals while helping others in a spirit of mutual respect and support!!
1000 Mile Challenge Shirts & Bling

1000 or 2000 Miles, Solo or Team
NOTE: You will
create your team and team name
when you submit the March Mileage Report in April. You can also change from 1000 to 2000 miles, or go from Solo to Team when you submit the first Mileage Report. In other words, you can do the Challenge anyway you want,
REGARDLESS OF HOW YOU REGISTERED. Just make the change on the first Mileage Report.
Also, all Team Challengers are automatically Solo Challengers. So, if you are on a team, and you complete 1000 miles on your own, you will receive 2 Certificates of Completion!! I would strongly encourage all Challengers to form teams, and it is more fun and supportive.
Here's what counts/ doesn't count for the 1000 Mile Challenge:
1) Hiking/Walking/Running or any combination thereof
2) Treadmills & Stairsteppers
3) Elliptical Machines
1) Bike riding
2) Bike machine
3) Any other indoor exercise machine
This challenge is all about steps. All your steps tracked by a fitness app (Runkeeper, Mapmywalk, Runtastic, etc) or wearable device (Fitbit, Garmin, smartwach etc.) count (casual steps like walking at work for example). However, we
PREFER that your miles come from deliberate hiking/walking/running activities. We also encourage you to do as many miles as possible in the great outdoors.
We know there is great diversity among our Challengers. Some of you are very young, some are elderly. Some Challengers are world class athletes, while others have serious medical conditions. We intentionally designed this Challenge to be flexible. So it's your Challenge and your choice whether or not to include casual steps.

You will track your mileage using a fitness app on your smartphone (
, etc) or a wearable fitness device (
, etc). You can also manually track your miles (jogging tracks, known routes and distances, Google Maps, using car to calculate distance, etc.) Note: If you are currently using a fitness app/device, you may use it for the 1000 Mile Challenge.
Mileage Submission Forms
Challengers (both solo and team) will submit the Individual Mileage Form. Each team will elect a Team Captain and
Team Captains will submit the Team Mileage Form (team members will communicate their monthly totals to their Team Captains). Begin submitting the forms on the 1st of each month (
due by the 10th
of each month). Takes 2 minutes to complete the form. Very easy!! Ranking Reports will be posted (and emailed) on the 15th of each month.
Notes: You will need your March totals to complete the April Mileage Forms.
Good record keeping is essential. Please only submit the Form ONCE (you will receive an email copy of your submission with the option to edit your submission if necessary).
If you wish to change from 1000 miles to 2000 miles or from Individual to Team, you can do so on the March Individual Mileage Submission Form.
Charity Miles App
Don't forget to download the
app. Earn 25 cents a mile for a charity you choose from a list of 47 courtesy of Corporate Sponsors like Johnson & Johnson, Humana, & Chobani (Note: you must
wear your smartphone
during your activity and t
here is now an "indoor" option
). You can choose a different charity for each activity.
Just start the app, do your activity, then stop the app. Your charity will automatically get the money you earned for them!! Visit

DO NOT use the Charity Miles app to track your miles. You will run your regular Fitness Tracking App at the
SAME TIME as Charity Miles app. There have been reports that the Charity Miles App sometimes inaccurately calculates mileage.

Certificate of Completion
You can request to receive your free Certificate of Completion when you reach 1000 (or 2000) miles OR you can wait till December 21st, 2017 and have your total mileage listed on the Certificate. If you are on a team, and you complete 1000 miles on your own, you will receive
TWO certificates (solo and team)!!
