Prepare to dive into the AIMA Canada Investor Forum 2018 by attending a breakfast with Lauren Malafronte, Managing Director, Scotiabank and 100WF Global Chair. Share your perspectives on timely issues of increased demand for skill, knowledge and judgement to consistently produce alpha, as well as the need for machine learning to maintain a competitive edge. Consider, too, the increasingly quantitative talent needed to build the investment team of the future, the improved partnerships with investors to build customized portfolios and the obligation to create a responsible, sustainable investment model.

Representatives of diverse alternative investments, including hedge funds, private credit, private equity, will gather in an intimate group setting to review these and related topics at this breakfast.

Margaret Franklin
President, BNY Mellon Wealth Management, Advisory Services

Margaret Franklin is president of BNY Mellon Wealth Management, Advisory Services. Margaret joined the firm in 2016 and has more than 20 years of investment and wealth management experience. Prior to joining the firm, Margaret held multiple senior management positions, most recently as president of Marret Private Wealth and COO of Marret Asset Management, a credit and hedge fund asset manager in Toronto. During her six-year tenure Margaret had direct oversight of all aspects of the private wealth business, including strategy and positioning, regulatory, financial statements, client oversights, recruiting and personnel management.

Prior to joining Marret, Margaret was a partner with KJ Harrison & Partners, a boutique private client investment management firm founded in 2002. Margaret began her career in the institutional business and has worked with pension plans, endowments, foundations and government agencies at State Street Global Advisors, Mercer and Barclays Global Investors. Margaret is a highly regarded leader in the investment professional community in Toronto and was recognized by the CFA Institute with the Alfred “Pete” C. Morley Distinguished Service Award. She has served in the past as board chairman with the CFA Institute Board of Governors and is a former president of the Toronto CFA Society Board. Currently she is a member of the Michael Garron Hospital Foundation Board.

Margaret earned a Bachelor of Administration in Economics from McMaster University in Ontario and is a frequent speaker to professional groups and the media. Ms. Franklin is a CFA charterholder, and a member of the Toronto CFA Society.

Françoise Lyon
President & Managing Partner, DGC Capital

Françoise E. Lyon is President & Managing Partner of DGC Capital, a private equity firm under the helm of a large family office based in Montreal, Canada. DGC Capital focuses on investing in game changing companies at the early and late growth stages via PE funds or co-investing opportunities. With like-minded investors from around the world. Over the past 25 years, Françoise has held several senior executive positions within the investment & wealth management industry and has served on several Boards of either non-profit or forprofit organisations. She’s currently the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the National Gallery of Canada and the incoming President of the Financial Women’s Association of Quebec. She’s also a Director of the IWF Leadership Foundation board based in Washington and is the IWF Canada Vice-President. At the beginning of 2016, she was voted in as a Governor of the Friends of the Mountain Foundation here in Montreal.

Françoise is an HEC Montréal and McGill University graduate with degrees in Business & Public Relations Management. She has participated in continuing education programs in Bath, England; Havana, Cuba; and in Chicago, USA. She is fluent in French, English & Spanish, and holds a dual citizenship with Canada and Great-Britain. She has lived, worked, studied and traveled extensively to more than 45 countries.

In 2013, Françoise was awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for her extensive work with women & wealth over the years. In 2015, she was identified as one of the top 8 women in Finance in Quebec by the Magazine Premières en Affaires and this past September was identified by the magazine Entreprendre as one of the Top 100 women leaders in Quebec to watch. Françoise is an avid gardener and world traveler. She is married to a senior Royal Canadian Air Force officer and they live with their 10 year old daughter on the south shore of Montreal.

Lesley Marks
Senior Vice President and Chief Investment Officer, BMO Private Banking

Lesley oversees the portfolio management and research for all fundamental Canadian equity strategies, in addition to being a member of the firm's leadership team.

She has 19 years of experience, most recently as Head of the Fundamental Canadian Equity Portfolio Management group and a previous 13 years as lead manager of the firm's Canadian small cap equity strategy. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Queen's University and an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business. Lesley is a CFA Charterholder.

Martha Tredgett
Canadian Representative, Belco/LGT Capital Partners

Ms. Tredgett (Canadian) has over 25 years of experience in the investment business combining equity capital markets, investment banking and business development strategy.

Before joining LGT Capital Partners in 2009 to spearhead LGT’s business development in North America, she served as a Managing Director for JP Morgan (Crane Capital subsidiary in Toronto) where she was advising on capital development for alternative asset managers across private equity, real estate, real assets, infrastructure and hedge funds.

Prior to 2002, Martha was a Vice-President & Director at a boutique investment dealer in Toronto, worked as a Director in equity sales at UBS in London & New York; and at Credit Suisse First Boston in London, Paris & New York as Vice President in US equities covering French-speaking institutions.

Ms. Tredgett earned a post-graduate degree in Business (D.B.S.) in 1990 from the London School of Economics and a Bachelor of Commerce in International Business from McGill University in 1989. She has served on the board of the SOHO Partnership, on the Advisory Board of the Faculty of Management at McGill University, and is currently on the board of the Finance & Investment Committee for the Royal Ontario Museum.

She speaks English and French.

Lauren Malafronte
Managing Director, Scotiabank and 100WF Global Chair

Lauren is a Managing Director at Scotiabank and is a member of the global management team for Prime Services responsible for Client Management. Prior to joining Scotiabank in 2013, she was the Head of Client Service for Prime Services at Barclays Capital. She began her career as a Computer Programmer/Business Analyst for various financial institutions before she moved into the Prime Brokerage business. Lauren is a member of the operating committee of Scotiabank’s U.S. Women’s Council and part of the bank’s U.S. Diversity and Inclusion Committee.

Michelle Noyes
Head of Americas, AIMA

Michelle Noyes joined AIMA in 2012 as Chief Operating Officer of AIMA's New York office, and became the Association's Head of Americas in December 2017.

Prior to AIMA, Michelle was Head of International Sales and Investor Relations for BRZ Investimentos, one of the largest independent asset managers in Brazil. While in Sao Paulo, she also served as the Brazil representative for AIMA and established the AIMA Brazil network. Michelle began her career in hedge funds as General Manager for a global conference organizer, where she launched and managed a portfolio of successful asset management and investment events. Michelle holds a B.A. and M.A. from New York University and is a CAIA Charterholder.
