Hear about the Swiss National Bank's current monetary policy and the challenges for the second half of the year, and beyond, including:

Petra Gerlach
Head of Monetary Analysis, Swiss National Bank

Petra Gerlach is Head of Monetary Analysis at the Swiss National Bank. She first joined the SNB in 2004, working as a researcher while also lecturing on Macroeconomics at the University of Basel. From 2009-11 she was an Economist in the Monetary and Economic Department of the Bank for International Settlements and then from 2011-14 taught Macroeconomics at Trinity College in Dublin. She then rejoined the Swiss National Bank in 2014 as Economic Advisor in the Monetary Analysis Department, becoming Advisor to the Governor in 2015 before her promotion in 2017 to her current role. Petra completed her studies, summa cum laude, at the University of Basel with a Ph.D.: her thesis was titled “Interest Rate-Setting Behaviour of Central Banks” under supervision of Peter Kugler. Her research has focused on decision processes in central banks and on policy questions such as international spillover effects of currency interventions, the impact of mortgage crises on consumption and inflation expectations.
