LeadingAge Illinois Turns 100 Today
2024 marks the 100th anniversary of LeadingAge Illinois, the state’s only association representing the entire continuum of care for aging services. LeadingAge Illinois was originally established as the Homes for the Aged in Chicago and Vicinity with its first documented meeting on January 23, 1924. It quickly expanded to cover the entire state of Illinois through dedicated efforts of mission-driven professionals with a commitment to improving care and services for older Illinoisians.

“I am beyond proud to share that our founding members that are still in operation are still members of ours today. They have shown true dedication to serving seniors in Illinois and have helped shaped the numerous advancements in care these past 100 years,” said Angela Schnepf, MBA, CAE, LeadingAge Illinois President & CEO. “Over the past 100 years, nearly everything about how we care for our aging population has changed. LeadingAge Illinois and its members have evolved to meet the
se ever-changing needs.”

These founding members recognized that their ability to shape quality care would be greatly enhanced by the creation of a statewide organization for like-minded individuals. The association has been committed to serving high-quality providers and their residents ever since.

Throughout its history, the association has delivered results for its members through advancing excellence and innovation in adult life services. It has done this through continuing education and training, networking, resource development, technical support, and advocating for good public policy that supports providers and the residents they care for.

“We have committed and caring leaders that believe in the mission of the association and improving the care of older adults,” said Elizabeth McLaren and the current Chair of the LeadingAge Illinois Board. “Along with our members, we continue to share our stories, our successes, and even our failures so that everyone can learn and benefit from the vast expertise our members and the association has to offer. The ability of the association to support those who support seniors has been vital the past century and we look forward to continuing that over the 100 years.”

Throughout the first half of 2024, LeadingAge Illinois will highlight different people, accomplishments and events that helped shape its first 100 years of service. The anniversary celebration will culminate with a celebratory dinner and ceremony on Monday, July 29 with the LeadingAge Illinois Convention and Exposition following July 30-31 in Schaumburg, Illinois.
