MNC Early Care and Education staff Sarina Escalante, Gina James, Vivian Lopez, Kristine Ramilo, and Theresa Sanchez-Perez, visited Children of the Rainbow in San Diego, CA as part of the MNC/ Children of the Rainbow Best Practices Exchange Program.
After recently hosting counter parts from COTR, the MNC team toured four centers, observing daily operations, exploring classrooms, and gaining insights, ideas and a deeper understanding of Children of the Rainbow’s organizational approach, strategies and culture. They learned about the food program, that included on site meal preparation, from Nia Spark, Chef at COTR Logan Center, and Shilia Patton, Curriculum Specialist and School District Liaison. Shilia also introduced the “Grow it, Try it, Like it” curriculum, which provides teachers with simple and engaging activities to help children explore and enjoy fruits and vegetables in meaningful ways. Inspired by this model, our team hopes to implement a similar approach in our classrooms to encourage children to taste and learn about different fruits and vegetables each week.

Our team returned motivated and full of new ideas they are eager to put into practice. Thank you to the entire Children of the Rainbow team for your warm hospitality and for taking such great care of our staff. We look forward to continued collaboration!

MNC’s programs combined to serve food and provide much needed supplies to families during the holiday season.
MNC’s Wolfsohn Campus Family Resource Center collaborated with Ascend/ PNC Bank to generously provide 100 hot meals, diapers, wipes, formula, and backpacks with supplies for 33 families. They also delivered a financial literacy presentation focused on budgeting and saving. Cindia Martinez hosted an emergency readiness workshop with Catholic Charities, and we were able to gift nine families with emergency backpacks.
MNC’s HADS (Healthy Aging and Disability Services) visited Synergy School for our annual Thanksgiving luncheon. Our Elders were excited to reconnect with the students and enjoy this special event for the eighth year. We also visited a local homeless shelter to provide meals for 35 people. Our team prepared soup and mashed potatoes. This was the first time MNC HADS served at a homeless shelter, and the experience was both meaningful and impactful for the entire team.
The MNC Healthy Aging and Disability Services, MNC Family Resource Centers and the MNC Admissions Team MNC team volunteered to make over 600 boxes and distributed 100 turkeys and food boxes to families. It was a humbling service, give to our community! MNC team members had a meaningful experience and enjoyed the positive energy sharing by everyone!
We are grateful to the Mission Food Hub; Roberto Hernandez, Rosine Garcia, Arturo Carrillo and ALL the incredible volunteers, for leading the way, ensuring families have access to healthy food and a warm Thanksgiving meal with all the fixings! Thank you Mission Food Hub for the opportunity to be part of the incredible community work!

MNC’s Early Care and Education proudly hosted our annual MNC Kinder Enrollment Fair at MNC’s Liliana’s Theater and in the MNC Wolfsohn Campus courtyard. The energy was warm and welcoming to 24 families learning next steps in their children’s educational journey.
We were honored to collaborate with 13 partner organizations, including private and charter schools presenting their unique programs and available financial support, and the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD), offering guidance on enrollment timelines, school placement, and navigating options. Families also learned about college savings pathways, reinforcing that educational planning can start early.
Parent’s voices were the heart of the fair:
“I had no idea about all the financial aid available at private schools. Now I have more options to consider for my child.”
“It was worth attending the fair. I learned about charter school programs and how school ranking matters in choosing the right school.”
“I changed my work schedule because I said to myself — this is important. I’m glad I came. I learned so much about the enrollment process and next steps. Thank you, MNC, for supporting us.”
These words remind us that when families are informed, supported, and empowered, they thrive and so do their children. At MNC, we remain committed to walking alongside families every step, from early learning to kindergarten and beyond. Together, we are paving the way for success.
