Freight Elevator Modernization Schedule
Dear Owners and Residents,
 
Pride & Service Elevator Company (P&S) has commenced the freight elevator modernization project. Sierra Consulting Group (Sierra) will oversee the modernization, which encompasses the comprehensive replacement of the service elevator machine and equipment, cab interior, and the installation of new doors, frames, and sills on every floor.
 
On Monday, September 11, the freight elevator will be shut down and will remain out of service until the modernization is complete and approved by the DOB.
 
Please refer to the attached P&S Elevator Modernization Schedule (link) and additional details below. 
The freight elevator modernization will take approximately 14 weeks (anticipated completion by mid-late December). Over the next couple weeks, P&S and A&D (cab company) will be taking final door measurements, and the replacement of the freight elevator doors, frames, and sills on each floor will take place in October and early November. Once measurements are finalized and door fabrication/delivery dates are confirmed, P&S will provide a more detailed schedule for the door/frame/sill replacements on every floor, which we will communicate. Residents will need to remove all personal items and belongings currently stored in the freight elevator vestibules prior to the door/frame/sill replacements.
 
After the modernization is finished, there will be 2-3 weeks of final adjustments and testing to prepare for the DOB inspections and approval. P&S will operate the new freight elevator and address any punch list items that may cause DOB objections. This includes testing the freight elevator emergency protocols and safety mechanisms and running the elevator constantly for several days to confirm no issues. The current schedule anticipates obtaining final DOB sign-off during the second week of January 2024, after which freight elevator service can be restored.
 
P&S will proceed with the modernization on an accelerated schedule, per the contract. Working hours are Monday to Saturday, 7am to 5:30pm* (60 hours per week). *Schedule excludes holidays. There will be no work on November 23-25 (Thanksgiving), December 25 (Christmas), and January 1 (New Years Day).
