Trey Joy is a 6th generation Kansas farmer from Smith County and current Mayor of Smith Center. Trey is Pro-Life, Pro-Agriculture, Pro-2nd Amendment, believer in small government, and fiscally and socially conservative. Trey's experiences include; Mayor of Smith Center, Board of Directors of the Smith Center Chamber of Commerce, Director of several Charitable Trust Foundations, City Council Liaison to the Smith Center Economic Development, President of the Smith Center Rotary Club, Vice President of the Smith County Kiwanis Club, Vice-Chair At Large of the Kansas Young Republicans, Vice Chair of the Big First Young Republicans, Inaugural graduate of the "Men's Leadership Series", Former Intern to Senator Pat Roberts (R-KS), and graduate of Fort Hays State University (Political Science & Business Administration).
"I am running for State Representative because it is time for a true conservative with legitimate and proven leadership experience to represent the people of District 109," said Trey. "We need someone who will fight for the unborn, fight for traditional family values, fight for our rural way of life, and fight for a smaller, more efficient government. As your State Representative, I will be the candidate that fights for your interest and not special interest in Topeka."
Troy Waymaster is a native Kansan who was born in Russell and has lived in Russell County most of his life. He credits his determination and strong work ethic to his days spent working with his father and uncle on the family farm south of Bunker Hill, where he continues to be active in the farming operation today. After graduating from Russell High School, Troy attended the University of Kansas and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. In addition to his coursework at KU, he interned for the State Senate during two legislative sessions. He also took summer courses with Barton County Community College and, after graduation from the University of Kansas, he took additional courses related to Business Management at Fort Hays State University. Since 2007, he has served on the boards of the Russell Area Chamber of Commerce and Russell Main Street, Inc. He is currently the Secretary/Treasurer of the Russell Area Chamber of Commerce and is a two-time past President of Russell Main Street, Inc.
"I feel that we need to have strong legislators in this area. With my 12 years of professional and community experience working with small businesses, we can have that," Troy stated. "I have the experience to be one of the most effective legislators to manage the state budget and bring down costs for all Kansans."
