10th Annual Suburban-Urban Interfaith Picnic Welcomes Over One Hundred Guests
The 10th annual Suburban-Urban Interfaith Picnic—sponsored by InterFaith Leadership Council and presented by the Detroit Interfaith Outreach Network (DION)—was held on Sunday, August 7th at Belle Isle State Park. Over 100 members of our community joined us in celebrating this year’s theme of “Valuing Each Other!”. Attendees enjoyed an interfaith service, games, and refreshments; the first time we have been able to gather in-person since 2019. The leader of DION, Rabbi Dorit, is a member of IFLC's Board of Directors.
We look forward to another successful event next year!

“100 Questions and Answers About the Black Church”- Upcoming Publication on Building Cultural Competence
Michigan State University's School of Journalism and Front Edge Publishing announce the upcoming publication of "100 Questions and Answers About the Black Church". This brand-new guidebook created by the MSU School of Journalism's Bias Busters intends to build cultural competence by spreading awareness about specific groups and communities. Ultimately, the goal is to break down cultural and socially constructed walls by opening discussion among people. Our very own Robert Bruttell, Vice-Chairman of InterFaith Leadership Council, contributed to this project.
The author writes, “The Black Church is a response to enslavement and discrimination, but its momentum is independent of outside forces. It is both an alliance of seven Christian denominations and a longstanding instrument of social change.”
