Are you Interested in Leading an Exercise Class One Morning during the COC?

We are looking for attendees that are interested in leading morning workouts on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday (July 16-18). Classes would take place in the morning before each conference day begins between the hours of 6:00am – 7:30am. Examples of the types of classes we are looking for include: yoga, Pilates, HIIT, Zumba, or other aerobic type exercises. Please contact Carragh Taylor-Hunt, taylorc@csus.edu if you are interested!

Pre-Conference Session Descriptions

Pre-conference sessions will take place on Monday, July 15, 2019 and are open to all registered conference attendees. Pre-conference sessions are designed to provide conference attendees an opportunity to learn and discuss emerging research, best practices, community-based efforts and effective policy strategies that promote and sustain healthy eating and physical activity practices through in-depth, hands-on learning.

Waste Not OC Coalition
This mobile workshop will unpack the value in food waste reduction from multiple angles including ways to increase health, alleviate hunger, and drive economic development. The tour will visit a food recovery kitchen to learn about their initiatives and role in the community. The second stop is a visit the Orange County Food to learn about the various programs they run, in addition to the shared role they play in the county with the other food bank and recovery programs. Finally, the tour will end with a small reception where attendees can engage with tour guides from Waste Not OC – a public/private effort to help end hunger and reduce food waste.

#SugarIsOut: Where We Are with SSB Work
Sugar sweetened beverages (SSBs) are top of mind for those thinking about public health as SSBs are the highest contributor of added sugar in the diet. This panel will address interventions that aim to reduce consumption of and access to SSBs in multiple settings. The session will share the emerging evidence and lessons learned from institutional SSB bans, communities with SSB taxes, and how community members are activating to inform community prevention funding efforts.
