Dear Sophomores and Families,

Student-Led Conferences at AHS are designed to help students reflect on their learning and growth while practicing important communication skills. Generally, SLCs take place on campus over the course of one afternoon, with parents in attendance and students leading the conversation while teachers observe. This fall, however, we will schedule SLCs individually and virtually.

For sophomores, SLCs will happen on Thursday, October 15 between 8am and 4pm, unless that time frame doesn't work for a particular family. There will be no regularly scheduled online class meetings on that day, with the exception of Spanish 2, which will meet as usual from 2-3pm, so that teachers in the Sophomore Team can meet with families. SLCs will consist of an online conversation between the student, a parent and a core teacher (Tina, Lori or Ande). The focus of the SLC will be on developing an academic improvement plan, developed by the student prior to the SLC, for any classes of concern. The academic improvement plan will be shared with the student’s Flock Leader, their advisor, and any teacher whose class is addressed within the plan.

Sophomores will be required to complete an SLC, if they have a C- or below in any core class, or if any of their elective teachers are concerned that the level of engagement in their course might indicate that a student is in danger of failing that class.

Sophomore teachers will describe the SLC format to students in Thursday’s online classes this week. In the weekly Flock email this Thursday, students and parents will be notified if they need to complete an SLC next Thursday, and will receive information about how to schedule that meeting.  Please keep an eye out for this email.  During Flex period on Monday and Tuesday next week Sophomores who are required to have an SLC will complete a draft of their Academic Improvement Plan to present and discuss during their SLC.

Please reach out to your student's Flock Leader with any questions!
