JUNE 29, 2026, ISSUE #19

It’s Movie Mania here at the Murphy Theatre during the month of July. Just like my big front teeth we’ve got a lot of film happening everywhere. By my count we have 8 movies in July. We should probably call July, “The Murphy Theatre Film Festival” month. But we don’t have baskets of vegetables or corndogs or other festival sorts of stuff, so we won’t.

Wednesday, July 1 we kick off the film fun with a 1:00 FREE matinee of the movie, Kung Fu Panda. This free film is made possible by our dear friends from SFM Insurance. Doors open at noon. In addition to this, kids can have a free Kid’s Kombo paid for by our good friend Lee. A Kid’s Kombo is a bottle of water or Bug Juice, a small popcorn, and your choice of a hot dog or candy. This free Kombo is for the first Wednesday only and for the kids only please.

Remember, bring a sweater!

Here’s the rest of our lineup for our other FREE Wednesday matinees in July… all at 1:00

July 8, Zootopia

July 15, How to Train Your Dragon

July 22, The Princess and the Frog

July 29, Encanto

Happy Birthday AMERICA, a day early!

Friday night, July 3 the Clinton County Community Band, under the direction of Eric Stanton will present their concert, Prelude to Fireworks, because the next night, July 4th, there are fireworks.

Special guests this year are the Wilmington Cantabile, under the direction of Seth Parshall.

Following the concert, at 8:30 we will be showing the 1972 historical musical comedy-drama, 1776, rated G. What a great way to celebrate the country’s 250th birthday. Because this is a combo of events tickets for the night are $10.00 whether you attend one or both. Free admission to Murphy Members for the entire kitten-kaboodle.

It’s an afternoon of Sugar Frosted Flicks!

Join us Saturday, July 11 as we host a fundraising event for our friends from Hope House, The Clinton County Homeless Shelter, and Sugartree Ministries.

It’s your favorite childhood cereals, then the movie Princess Bride. Can it get any better? It can, it’s FREE.

Doors open at 5:00 and the cereal and milk will be pouring, (the bar will be closed) and the movie The Princess Bride will roll at 6:00 pm. This is another free event for the community, but we do ask you to bring some cash to donate to our friends in need. We will be passing around some of the empty cereal boxes for you to stuff full of cash.

And while you’re reading his, send me a quick email with your top three favorite cereals from your youth, and none of that healthy stuff please!

NOT JEST GLAZING OVER THE IMPORTANT TOPICS

Our next Coffee and Conversations with Donuts will be Saturday morning, July 18 at 9:30 am. Here’s a perfect opportunity to enjoy a donut and coffee with friends and ask us anything you want to know about the Murphy Theatre. We’ll share our latest, current, and future projects, how we receive some of our funding, and how we don’t. It promises to be a fun-filled informational morning. We will also be asking for your input on how we can improve what we’re doing. Meet us in Charlie’s and bring your appetite, thirst, questions, and two friends.

They’re not average Thunderbirds, or even a tribute to the Thunderbirds, they’re THE Fabulous Thunderbirds, featuring Kim Wilson, and they’re coming to The Murphy Theatre on Saturday night, July 18 at 7:30.

Don’t miss this opportunity to catch these musical icons. Get your tickets here.

Our next Sunday Coffee and Cheesecake Cinema is scheduled for Sunday, July 19, at 2:00 pm with the epic 1989 American historical war drama, GLORY starring Matthew Broderick, Denzel Washington, and Morgan Freeman. Directed by Edward Zwick, GLORY surrounds the 54th Infantry Regiment, one of the Union Army’s earliest African American regiments in the Civil War.

Admission is just $10 for the movie, coffee, cheesecake, and conversation that follows the movie. Free to all Murphy Theatre members. Those attending will vote on the September movie following our film and conversation.

SOMEBODY CALL A

HOTDOG EMERGENCY?

Put the guitarist from the 70’s 80’s rock band Blondie, on stage with the former drummer from Breaking Benjamin, add some of the most sought-after rock musicians in the country, and that can only result in the obvious, and they call themselves, Hot Dog Emergency, and they’re coming to rock The Murphy Theatre on Friday, July 24, at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are just $10.00, and we ask you to consider bringing a non-perishable food item (or a five-dollar donation) that we can deliver to the local food pantries. Thanks to your generosity with our small collection table sitting in the lobby over the past four-plus years, we have delivered more than one ton of food to help our neighbors in need.

Food, Drinks, and Doors

We will have beer specials, plenty of hot dogs, award-wanting fresh popcorn, large hot pretzels, and Charlie’s Spiked Cider Slushies available for purchase. Doors open at 6:00 pm for the 7:30 concert. Bring a sweater because our air conditioning is super cool, or better yet, pick up a Murphy hoodie while you’re here.

*Our Hot Dog Emergency concert is not affiliated with Rock the Block.

Saturday, July 25, Rock the Block takes the Murphy Theatre Stage with Tom Kiefer of Cinderella fame. There are no tickets left, and the concert begins at 7:00.

SAVE THE DATE FOR A GREAT FAMILY-FRIENDLY NIGHT OUT

World Series champion and Reds Hall of Famer Bronson Arroyo and His Band will play a concert at The Murphy Theatre on Saturday, August 8, at 7:30. Just $20 for adults, and $5.00 for the kids, 17 and under. Any kid sporting their own baseball uniform or Reds gear will get a free small popcorn. This will be a great night for the family, with hot dog specials, cheap beer and soda, Cracker Jacks, Charlie’s spiked cider, hot pretzels, popcorn, and a raffle of a signed Bronson Arroyo jersey.

Get your concert tickets here.

Our 44TH Anniversary Smarty Pants Trivia will take place on Tuesday, September 8. Yes, we are taking a summer break which gives you plenty of time to bone up on all things trivial like the capital of Idaho, Carol’s earnings on a $1,500.00 loan yielding 5% interest annually, or what is the oldest fish. As always doors open at 5:45 and the first question bounces out of my mouth at 6:30. It’s just $5 per person to play, and free for any Murphy Member. Call to reserve your team’s spot.
