The Eleven: November 2014
Armistice Day (which coincides with Remembrance Day and Veterans Day, public holidays) is commemorated every year on 11 November to mark the armistice signed between the Allies of World War I and Germany at CompigneFrance, for the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front ofWorld War I, which took effect at eleven o'clock in the morning-the "eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" of 1918.

Hello there, and happy 11.11. For many of us who are drawn to 11's - who see 11:11 often - this is the big one. And of course the day is marked by national and international holidays.

How about that election? Here's a prediction for you - this is the last time in our lifetime that the Republican Party will have a majority in the US Senate. I think that's a real possibility. For now, let's just hope they don't muck things up too much in the next two years.

Here in Oregon, we legalized marijuana. How about that? I never thought I'd ever see the day in my lifetime when that would be true. Never even occurred to me, and yet, there it is.  Marijuana legalized where I live. The important fight that Eecole and I put a lot of time into was the Yes on 92 campaign - the labeling of GMOs in Oregon food. They're still counting the ballots on that one - and we may not know the result for a while, but right now NO is winning by about 6,500 votes and there are only about 20,000 yet to count, so it's not looking great. That said, every time this issue is brought before voters, a few more of us get educated on the issue - and we'll probably ban GMOs country-wide once everyone figures out what Monsanto/PepsiCo/Syngenta and friends are up to - selling pesticides and herbicides by the ton and bringing us all a cancer-filled world. If you get a chance, see the new documentary GMO OMG. Seeing that twice woke me up to the seriousness of this issue on so many levels.

I just flew back from Philadelphia where I got to see my nephew, Ezra Taylor (my Sister, Liz's son), get bar mitzvah-ed. It was a great visit full of family, music and friends. Lots of great food was served and the whole trip was welcoming and nurturing. It's so wonderful to have a happy and healthy family to nestle into. I love you Kaufman/Taylor/Karps/Bennetts and friends!

Thanks for being there and for all the great work you're doing in the world. I know you're doing it :)

Happy Autumn, and enjoy some specialness today on 11.11!
