The Morning Star Weekly Newsletter Vol 5, Edition 15 11/17/2020
Dear Morning Star Families and Friends,

I would like to Celebrate Mrs. Franqui’s class this week. Her science intermediate 1 students have been learning how to identify vertebrates. One of the class activities was to choose either a vertebrate or invertebrate and create a model out of pieces of candy. It was a creative, as well as delicious, project that everyone enjoyed. Mrs. Franqui also had a Math celebration. One of her students was able to write their 1-100 numbers for the first time! It was one of those special moments when you experience a child taking pride in their work and in themselves.

Sponsor a Teacher for Christmas...

I would like to ask for your help in sponsoring a teacher to help us pay for a very special Christmas Celebration. 2020 has been a difficult year for our teachers and staff, and everyone is working extremely hard to keep our students learning, both at school AND at home. I am so proud of their dedication and perseverance during these challenging times. And, to lighten the mood and have some much-needed fun, Mrs. Binder and I have a plan to do something special for everyone this year - a Morning Star Christmas gift. A special day where the entire team can celebrate the holidays, while safely enjoying time together at TopGolf. This would be a celebration for just our employees (no significant others), wearing masks and using safe distancing protocols to enjoy a day of teambuilding fun!

Unfortunately, due to so many unexpected expenses, we need your help to make this happen. Please consider a $25 “Sponsor a Teacher” donation to help make this possible. Our goal is to raise $1,500. If you would like to sponsor a teacher(s), please send in your check, or click HERE to donate.

Many Blessings,
Elaine Shott, Principal
REMINDERS
Thanksgiving Holiday
November 25th - November 29th is Morning Star's Thanksgiving holiday. Classes resume on Monday, November 30th.
Thanksgiving Food Drive
November 9th-20th, Morning Star School will host its annual Thanksgiving Food Drive. Please bring in boxes, cans, bottles, and jars of non-perishable food for your student's class collection. No glass please. There are more people than ever who need food now and we want to help be the hands of mercy for God's people.

Matthew 25:35 I was hungry, and you gave me food. I was thirsty, and you gave me drink. I was a stranger, and you welcomed me.
Classroom Donations Needed
Due to shortage of paper towels, tissues, etc. at the beginning of the school year we did not add them to our school supply list. As the school year has progressed, we have used up our 'extras' so we are asking for donations of the following items.

  • Paper towels
  • Sanitizing Wipes
  • Tissues
  • Sanitizer
  • Dry Erase Markers

Please drop off your donations in bins by the front office. Please remember to put your child's last name on any items donated so we can give you volunteer credit hours for your contributions.

FROM YOUR DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT
Our ANNUAL FUND DRIVE has begun! Due to unexpected COVID expenses, reduced funding and the cancelation of our largest fundraiser, our annual Gala & Auction, our need this year is much more than previous years. Our goal is to raise $180,000. So far we have raised $27,000. If you donated last year, you will receive a donation letter in the mail. Please consider supporting our school. No amount is too small.
GIVINGTUESDAY is a global day of generosity. A fundraising day held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. This year, GIVINGTUESDAY is on December 1st, 2020. Our goal? To raise $27,000 that day, which is a portion of the $180,000 required fundraising goal needed for the 2020-2021 school year.

Help us spread the word on Facebook! Share our posts on your personal page with everyone you know. Family members and friends can now donate right on our Facebook page. It's quick and easy. If you have your own Facebook account, please make sure you like our page and share our GIVING TUESDAY posts.

WE NEED YOUR TESTIMONIALS!
Why is Morning Star School special? We need testimonials, short videos and photos from our parents, students and family members! As we face a challenging year we want to make certain we share great success stories and fun videos and photos of our students. You can help by sending in your Morning Star story to Maria Johnson at development@morningstar-jax.org

TRIBUTE TO OUR VETERANS

Hello, I would like to say Thank you to Our Men and Women because they make huge sacrifices for us as people. We as the people wouldn’t have the rights or freedom that we have today if it wasn’t for them. They wake up every morning risking their lives for us. While leaving their loved ones behind just for a chance to fight for them and represent our country. If this is not true determination I don’t know what is if you ask me.
~Great love has no one than this that he lay down his life for his friends.~

Ms. Hurst’s class has had lots of fun learning about our government and it’s three branches during this patriotic time in our country. Their mobiles turned out great!
Junior High 1 student Brandon Acacia shows his fearless video during show & share with his class. The video demonstrates the opposite of our vocabulary word "intimidated."
HIGH SCHOOL NEWS
10th and 11th grade worked together to make their "Kentucky Fried Turkey" Thanksgiving donation box.
Students in Mrs. Despres’ high school reading class completed a STEM activity to go along with their novel study of "The Lord of the Flies". Students were given materials from outside to build a hut, or shelter, just like the stranded boys in the book. Students from home participated by gathering materials outside their home to build their huts. Some very innovative shelters were created!
